Ultimate guide on kinds of boss fights and the mechanics! Rating 🟩

Hello gimkiters!

This is a remake of my guide here,

since it wasnt very good.

So i hope you like this version!

Making a POSSIBLE boss fight

Playtesting is very important for games with boss fights!
If you don’t playtest, then chances are that you will mess up and something will go wrong, trust me, it’ll happen!
Also dont forget that young people also play gimkit, so make the boss fight actually possible, but not so easy that you dont have to try at all.
maybe try some indicators too!

There are many guides on boss fights, yes i know.
so ill put them here

What is a boss fight and what makes a good boss?

A boss fight is a creature at the end of a game that is usually the most difficult and “coolest” character in the game. Some boss fights are twists, like an npc that turns out to be the main antagonist, or cutscenes in the middle of the game to build up to the final boss!

If you want your game to be a good high quality game, then don’t just make the boss just appear out of nowhere and exist for no reason. make a reason for the boss fight and make the player root for themselves to defeat the boss. make the boss have a motive. think of villains from video game that we play. if anyone here plays undertale, the final boss in the bad(can’t say genos.) route then sans is the final boss because you knocked out his brother, and everyone he knows! thats a reason to be a final boss!

Now that you got the’re idea of a boss fight, then heres my way!
remember, always eat your penguins :penguin:

sentry boss fights

Sentry boss fights are usually more generic and more common, and are used most often. So most boss fights are lazy and just have a gadget and some props to protect you. But the good boss fights are the ones that have multiple attacks and actually take effort to create. such as boss fights that have triggers to randomly spawn attacks, instead of just a blaster firing at you. So ill show you how to make an attack.

Take a barrier and make it .75 transparency, with the (activate receiving on) channel “attack 2”. also make it deactivate on “attack 3” .after that, then take a trigger and a zone. with the zone put “when player enters” put the channel “attack 1”
then take the trigger and make it trigger on the channel :“attack 1” and trigger when triggered end the channel “attack” also make the delay around 10 seconds.

now after that, make your arena. the sentry should fit in the arena, like so.

Remember to keep the boss fight high quality and reflect the emotions around the boss.
Mine may be a little genaric, but i didn’t have much time to fix it, and i will later
Now get another zone, and make it a circle like the barrier, and the same size to put it on top. set it to not appearing on game start, and make it appear on “attack 3” make it disappear on “attack 4”

make it so that when you enter the zone, set the channel “oof”.

grab a damager, make it deal 25% of the players health. like if they have 200, deal 50, 100, 25 etc.
now make the zone not activate on the start, but activate on da channel “attack 3”
Now here come the spooky parts
here is freddy for you

alright back to the boss fights…
Now grab three triggers and make the first one these channels

make the second one these settings.

make the third of them these channels.

grab one final trigger.
make it these channels.
PUSH THROUGH WE’RE ALMOST DONE

Lets see if it works…

IT WORKS
or at least it does for me, tell me if it doesnt work and ill fix it for you!
Change the size of the barrier and zone to change what kind of attack it is!
oh wait i already used that freddy picture

player boss fights

This is usually more complex than sentry boss fights, since there are more things the player can do.
Also there are attack cooldowns instead of just timing it, so bear with me
heh see what i did there

Look at my sentry one and copy the exact same thing.
Got that?
Now for the extra stuff.
Grab a lifecycle and check to make it send a trigger on game start. the channel should be “start”
now send a relay and make it say "

after that take a popup and put in these channels.

Now make the arena with a 4 by 8 area for the player that the boss is to be

now place down some buttons.

now grab a teleporter and make it non visible, and teleport there on the channel “boss”.
now make the first button these:

This will cause the dots to attack. But now here is how to make a attack cooldown:

Button cooldown

For a button cooldown, put the channel on pressed on onto the deactivate button channel.

now grab a trigger and make it put these channels.

now make the button deactivate on that “attack 5” channel
thats a button cooldown

You can change the numbers on the channels to make different attacks, like the different attacks like the walls and dots, making better attacks to mix things up
here are a couple other attacks for the player boss

spawn sentries

spawning sentries is often overused in non player boss fights. and also they just dont work.
so this is how to make it!
Take the amount of sentries that you want and make it not appear in game start.
also make the sentry activate on the channel attack 7.
now get a button.
or use on of the buttons from the mini guide op there that i showed you :backhand_index_pointing_up:
now make the button say “activate sentries ONE TIME USE”

make sure that the “one time use” part is included, there is no memory useful way to make this work every time.

Now make the channel on the button channel “attack 7”.
thats really it.
also make the sentries not respawn.
thats it :+1:

jump down to arena

wiwwy simple
put a zone on the teleporter for the player boss.

now make a game overlay…
a button…
.
.
done?
.
now
it should say “jump down”
then make the channel “jump”

now grab another teleporter
make it non visible and teleport player on channel “jump”
place it on the arena where the non bossfight players play

anway
grab another game overlay and place it down

make it say “jump up” and appear on the channel jump.
also, make the game overlay not appear on game start, both of them, including only activate for one player, not the entire team of players
the second game overlay should send the channel “jump 2” when the button is clicked.

now take another teleporter
place it on the bosses area
now make the boss teleport there on the channel “jump 2”
grab the first game overlay and make it deactivate on the channel jump
make the second game overlay deactivate on the channel jump 2
take a trigger. make when the channel jump 2 is sent, then the channel jump itself is triggered.

thats it!
tell me if i missed anything and i will edit it right away!

gotta stop using that picture

tell me if i made any mistakes so i can fix them
thank you for your cooperation
