Hey there! A while back I made a guide on custom lighting in top-down maps. It’s pretty simple. Just make a non-collision, transparent barrier on the top layer. It works really well for a lot of scenarios (dark areas, fog, alarm lights, etc). Well; now that platformer is free, you can totally bet i’ve been scheming up something new. So being inspired by this old system of mine, i’ve made 3 scenes, and here’s how to make them:
It’s quite simple, and similar to my lighting thing.
-Place a barrier
-Move it to the Behind layer, make it the furthest object from the front
-Turn off collision
-Make it as transparent as you need (I recommend 0.9 for nighttime scenes, 1 for regular walls, and for different-colored skies it’s up to you)
-Color it whatever you please
-And there you go! You have a cool background for your platformer.
I mean, I don’t notice anything particularly bad about this, but if the OP is cool with just putting it in the wiki (where it would fit a bit better), I’ll do so.
@NuggetTheLobotomite you let me know when you want me to close & unlist this topic. It won’t be able to be seen anymore (without the link).
@NuggetTheLobotomite, I’ll close this, and give you a day to tell me if you’re cool with it disappearing. It’s your guide, after all. Just edit your post and @ me, ok? If you don’t, I’ll unlist this. You can also just tell me to go ahead and unlist it.
You requested to leave it up, so I will. This won’t get bumped, but you’ll be able to see it in your bio, so if you wanna ever go back to this, you can.
My work here is done!
