Iāve noticed that very few people tend to put in effort when making their platformer maps.
Here are some tips to make people WANT to continue playing your game.
The beginning of your platformer.
The beginning is one of the most important parts of your platformer maps.
It shows or gives the player a visual of the game they are about to play.
So, make sure to start with a simple level (if your platformer includes levels/checkpoints) as if players see that the beginning of your map starts hard, they wonāt want to continue playing.
The shape of your platformer.
Many platformers include spamming terrain like the picture below. (not mine)
This almost GUARANTEES the player wouldnāt want to complete such a confusing map.
Keep your terrain nice and simple (layered too or @SirWyWy will eat you)
Biomes/Themes
Biomes include grassy, sandy, snowy etc.
Making a variety of these makes the player find the game more interesting and not the same boring thing for the whole game.
Use props/Items
Like the game mode āDonāt Look Downā, the game includes a TON of different props.
Doing this makes your game interesting and slightly challenging, allowing the player to take the game seriously. You wouldnāt want your game to be too easy or too hard.
CHECKPOINTS/RESPAWNING
I know Iām not the only one but, the feeling of falling during a long platformer game mode is bad enough, but not having a way to get back is REALLY annoying.
Please make sure to include a sufficient way for the player to get back even if you donāt want to include checkpoints in your game.
E.X: Put lasers below, so if the player happens to fall, they can quickly get back and continue on their way!
Thanks, hope this was helpful!
Made this a wiki, please donāt grief.
Just so ya know, the mini-guide tag was deleted for more detailed and longer guides to be made. Since this is a mini guide there is a chance this will be taken down.
