The only actually efficient way to make a hunger system is with blocks. So, I doubt you’ll find an answer that’s really answering your question without it being really iffy, inefficient and overall memory consuming.
Why can you use blocks.

But once in a while you should use because they are needed

And just use blueberries or something to represent food. No blocks needed.

ok so I actually made a guide about food( it also has its own problems) but not hunger but you can just use a movement meter and take away something and then make it cast a channel that respawns you
