1st Person Tips

Hey, y’all! I’m trying to embark on one of my most complicated maps yet: The Breakroom, a 1st person chill exploration game, based off of a cute little abandoned project I saw on Scratch once.

It’s not going to be a sh00ter game (though I did make one of those once, it worked okay) (you had to sh00t from the side instead of up ahead, but that could be fixed if you put it into top-down instead of platformer mode) (come to think of it, I should probably make a guide on that), but it’ll still be hard to make it with a 1st-person POV.

So, you guys got any tips? It’ll be recreated with barriers covering your player in platformer mode. Probably some camera views, too.

Thanks in advance, as always!

I really wish I could link the Scratch game here for an example, this is getting confusing lol
Is, you’re not actually STEPPING anywhere. You’ll click a button to move to the next area (I’m keeping that for a “video game” kinda feel still, the game’s more like me trying to build an atmosphere). I need some tips on recreating the “looking ahead” POV, ideas for what else should be in the breakroom, and just… help with whatever comes up, really.

Thanks again, you guys ;-;

I am so sorry in advance, because my brain has not been wanting to work, so I might be asking really dumb questions.

Do you want tips on a shooter game in a platformer?
(just confirming)

lol, my brain’s asleep right now too, don’t worry

I need tips on making a 1st-person POV game that isn’t a sh00ter. I checked this one device topic, but I think it was all psuedo-hitboxes and stuff (Ignore the zeroes, I feel weird saying words without 'em sometimes) (just feels like they should be blocked).

It’s a little breakroom exploration where you can walk around, eat at a lil snack bar, cozy up near a fireplace, and chat w/ other players. I could use some more ideas for what to put in, actually–

(I’ma hop offline so don’t sit around waiting for me to reply lol, thanks for helping me out)

Oooooh! Sounds kewl!

Well I dunno if you need props, but here are some ideas:

  • Maybe use the Wood fire oven for the fireplace

  • BOOKSHELVES

  • I would consider stools with collision off

  • You could have a silly mini fridge with the snack bar in it, and you can yoink the snack bar

  • Maybe a window looking ‘outside’

    Like dat :P ^^^^^^

  • A table with books and board games, food, drinks, etc.

You could also have a side quest of finding a cat hidden in the house, and you ‘slip’ over a banana peel :3

Of course! :D

Uh, do you have the mechanics for making first person down yet?

no

I posted this before I started with anything, so all I have right now is pretty much just a platformer map with nothing on it–

My main plan is to cover up the player and use barriers to make everything. The player’s speed l’be at 0, and they’ll use overlays or buttons to move between rooms so I don’t have to deal with people going “what I’m moving sideways but facing forward aaaaaaa”

Mechanics would still be a huge help, though

I went on a scavenger hunt to find this. Probably will help.
