This guide is 80% factual and 20% opinionated. Iโm not trying to offend anyone or anything, but any claims or arguments made here are both based on the community and from factual research. If you don't agree with something, that's *okay*
; I just made this guide a fun idea and for us to learn about the Gimkit devices we use to make our great games.
Hello, everyone! Welcome to the first guide of its kind โ a guide that will tell you all about the 10 BEST devices to use like crazy in your maps and the top 10 ones NOT to! Before we get started, I would like to mention a few things:
I would like to thank all of the dozens of people who voted for this poll, and for the creation of this guide. I would also like to thank people for contributing and discussing the creation process. I hope you enjoyed this guide as it took me a week to create!
Without further ado, letโs start with the WORST devices!
THE TOP 10 WORST DEVICES TO OVERUSE
๐ฉTrigger (10th)
Coming in at last of the worst, is the TRIGGER. Now, this may seem controversial for some voters, but some people ended up voting for the trigger. The Trigger is arguably one of the best, if not the best, devices in GKC, on account of several users, but the Trigger can be difficult for beginners. It has several settings and takes practice to understand, so it is reasonable for it to take a spot in the worst devices for some users. Sorry, Trigger lovers!
โ Checker (9th)
Coming in right behind the trigger is the CHECKER. The Checker is just like the trigger in some ways; it has multiple settings, can be confusing, and requires some knowledge of other devices to operate. It is extremely helpful like the trigger is, but it takes practice to understand. The Checker is ranked 9th worst to overuse in this guide, reasonably.
๐ต Knockout Manager (8th)
Coming in behind the Trigger and Checker is the KNOCKOUT MANAGER. This devices is extremely helpful if you are making a knockout game, and this device isnโt too difficult to understand. However, the KM isnโt really OK to overuse and is hardly used for different games, as it applies to one genre โ knockout games. Therefore, it claimed a spot in the worst devices to overuse.
๐ Inventory Item Manager (7th)
Sliding in silently in the poll is the INVENTORY ITEM MANAGER. Now, I really donโt have a lot to say about this device. This thing is only used to manage inventory items, and they only have a few settings. Unfortunately, besides that, this device cannot be used for anything else and is hardly ever mentioned in games. Therefore, the Inventory Item Manager claims a spot in the worst devices to overuse.
๐ Wire Repeater (6th)
The WIRE REPEATER claims sixth in this section. Why? Obvious reasons for some. The wire repeater is basically a device that repeats wire functions again and again. People also (not spoiling!) hate using repeaters, so it makes clear sense. Iโm not going to say anything else on this โ the w.r. takes sixth in the poll.
๐ End Game (5th)
In half between, the END GAME takes a spot. This device just ends the game. Everyone has to use this if they want their game to end manually, but you shouldnโt really overuse this device. Thereโs really no need to.
๐ค Sentry (4th)
SENTRIES are one of the most popular devices in GKC, and they are not complicated. They are used in a number of games, and can be used for roleplaying, dialogue, battling, and other games. However, the reason why people voted for this device is that for one, it costs 500 memory for one, and using them again and again takes up SO MUCH memory! They can be confusing for younger users, despite them having one initial purpose-- attacking players! Therefore, sentries claim their spot in the top 10 devices to NOT overuse.
โ Waypoint (3rd)๐ฅ
Claiming third in our top three, is the WAYPOINT! Now, personally, I hate this device, but my opinion doesnโt really matter here! The Waypoint can be really confusing, and there are several settings you need to really pay attention to when using them. If you have played a map where are there multiple waypoints everywhere, it gets really annoying and frustrating for players to concentrate on one thing when there are so many other arrows pointing somewhere else!
Therefore, the Waypoint claims third in our worst devices to overuse.
โฝ Ball (2nd) ๐ฅ
Oh, wow! The Ball got 2nd. Receiving nearly 28% of the votes, this device claims second. Now, when this device came out, everyone was excited. It was featured in Blastball and it gave Gimkit a fun new look. However, when people actually use this thing, itโs pretty useless. It does have physics connected to it, but not everyone understands it! (ahemโฆpeople who are not even in middle school yet!..) and it can be moved by โblastingโ it! I mean, seriously. There arenโt many uses for this besides making soccer games, soโฆhonestly, I agree with this.
And now, claiming the first spot isโฆ (you probably guessed itโฆ)
๐ Repeater ๐ฅ
The REPEATER! The most-hated device in Gimkit history claims first receiving 49% of the votes, like nearly HALF of everyone voted this as the worst! And theyโre not wrong! (Or entirely right, some people might sayโฆ) This device is useless. The settings are terrible, you can do the EXACT same thing with a trigger loop! It can be confusing, and it takes a good chunk of memory! I mean, who even USES this thing?
Erm, yeah. Thatโs the end of that sectionโฆ
Anyway, if you agree with these, make sure to comment! This section took me three days alone! If you want me to add more reasons, comment! Now, letโs get on withโฆ
THE TOP BEST DEVICES TO OVERUSE
๐ Property (10th)
Claiming tenth, the PROPERTY is the tenth best devices to overuse. Now, I was surprised. I was expecting this device to rank higher for this as it is used like CRAZY in like, 50% of maps. But when I saw the other ones, I realized properties got 10th for a reason. They are confusing at first, and they take practice, but they definitely deserve the best.
๐ Counter (9th)
In ninth place, the COUNTER snags a spot. The counter is GOOD, and it can do so many things that other devices canโt. It can update properties, count, and connect to most devices to make functions! This makes live player counting possible! It is also good for ending games in more complex and sneaky ways, and it isnโt very confusing, although it can be. Therefore, the silent counter takes a spot.
๐ Crafting Table (8th)
The CRAFTING TABLE surprisingly claims eighth in the ten best devices to overuse. Now, Crafting Tables are brilliant, and they allow you to have players make items using other ones! Brilliant and amazing! This can be used for Minecraft, other games, and even MM2! Very good device, that is!
๐ท Camera View (7th)
YES! The Camera View claims seventh of the best devices to overuse. This device literally deserves this spot. It has NO settings. It is SUPER EASY to use. It is used in most of all the best games in GKC, and no other devices can do what this can. The Cam View definitely deserves this spot. Sorry, I didnโt have much to say on this device.
๐ Teleporter (6th)
Coming in at sixth is the TELEPORTER. Now, this device isnโt really hard to understand. It can teleport players anywhere as long as a teleporter is visible. It has no difficult settings, can be effective in creating game mechanics, and also is very useful when it comes to memory. These things require so little memory that they are amazing!
๐ Game Overlay (5th)
The GAME OVERLAY is absolutely brilliant. These devices can show text, buttons, amount of items, or even values of properties while players are playing. It has efficient block code and doesnโt require too much energy. While you can only have four of these at a time on one screen, they are still SUPER efficient and have tons of different uses, like levels, amount of items or properties, in-game tasks, buttons, communication! Everything can be done with this! This device is great and definitely deserves a spot in this poll.
๐ง Barrier (4th)
Like game overlays, BARRIERS have an infinite number of uses! They can be connected to anything and can be layered onto most props. You can create beautiful art with these things! NO OTHER devices can do such things. Props donโt count, though. You can hide areas, reveal areas, create animations, and organize areas with these. They are REALLY good for simulator and tycoon games, and they are used in probably 80% of maps. These things are amazing.
๐ Button (3rd) ๐ฅ
Claiming third, is the BUTTON. This device is the beginnerโs favorite. They are super easy to use, donโt require a lot of energy, have good settings, and are efficient in so many ways in games. The button is one of the most frequently used devices in GKC history, and there are valid reasons why. Therefore, the button claims third place! Hooray!
๐ Text (2nd)๐ฅ
TEXT!! The Text device takes silver (2nd) in the poll. Text is basically memory-less, requires NO skill or experience, and has different fonts, styles, and purposes. You can animate this as well! Text definitely deserves getting second as it is used a LOT in most games. I mean, like, 90%?
And now, the moment youโve all been waiting for! The best, best, best device of all time to use like CRAZY in GKC isโฆ (you probably guessed itโฆ)
๐พ Trigger (1st!)๐ฅ
UNANIMOUSLY, the TRIGGER takes FIRST PLACE AS THE BEST DEVICE TO OVERUSE! This thing does EVERYTHING! It can update properties, operate like a button, replace a repeater, has delays, create animations easily and effectively, replace zones, Trigger you to be teleported somewhere or operate overlays, popups, item granters, and others, end games, has INSANELY good block code, and does dozens of other things. Oh, and did I mention that it literally requires NO memory?
Wellโฆit does, but we still havenโt figured out whatโs the maximum limit of triggers to be placed because they cost SO LITTLE memory and have no known limit! It also received 42% of the votes! This device is the best and will probably most likely always be!
Okay, that was definitely a lotโฆI tried to come up with some of the best reasons, but there might be others too! If you liked this guide, make sure to give it a ! Again, it took me a week to think about this guide, write it out as a draft, and then type it in! Yes, I do that with guides.
Thanks for reading! More Californian guides are coming soon, so stay tuned!
