Well, for starters, maybe make something like a thirst or hunger system, and add enemies, loot, and bosses.

Here I got some ideas to maybe try 
- Dungeons, get through for better gadgets
- Use teams to give players roles, stuff like cook or hunter for special boosts
- Add npcs to rescue, they give money and you can trade with them
- Every few minutes, your choice how long, a boss zombie spawns and you need to hide, once you get the best gadgets, he spawns and you need to knock him out to end the game
- Add a weather system, you can get resources to craft or get temporary effects during them. Or just to make the game look better lol

Easter eggs, and money everytime you Destr0y zombies, use the money to buy gadgets!
