How do I add text on a sign

How do I get text to go on a sign? I have tried using layers and looked in the sign’s settings, but I can’t figure out how to do this?

add a text device on top of the sign and morph it to the shape of the sign

You need a text device. Layer it over the sign to make it look like the text is on the sign.
