Easy guide: How to turn a Sentry into a character! 2/10 difficulty!

Criticism on this guide [1]

Misplaced Tag:
I see you did remove the ideas tag like I mentioned, but I’m still going to say what I did before:

This guide isn’t really worthy of an idea-related tag, as it’s not really giving me any ideas, but rather info on how to build a character.

This category doesn’t change the final rating

Grammar:
I like well-written guides, and this almost made it to my standards[2]

As far as I can tell, there is no grammatical error in this guide. But on that topic, there were quite a few punctuation errors.

Example:

Make sure to put a space after a comma.

Small suggestion:
If you replace the “and’s” in your article with an ampersand, it gives off a much more formal approach.

Grammar rating:

7.1/10

Previous rating

6.2/10, +0.9

Approach:
After revisions, this guide now has a somewhat clear voice. It’s a bit of a neutral/confident now.

[3]

Guides with a confident (and/or) formal approach tend to stick out better to the audience, boosting the amount of likes you’ll get and the overall positivity of the readers.

Voice rating:

7.4/10

Previous rating

4/10, +3.4

Formatting:
I am always picky on this aspect, so you should never expect a perfect rating from me on this category.

The formatting in this guide after the revision is ok. It could be better.

Examples of well-formatted guides

The Illusion of Life 📜: The Ultimate Guide to Gimkit Animation
[ 📜 ] Making Blade Ball in GKC (WIP) (5/10)

Now I know there are a lot of people with formatting guides for guides, but I’m not one of them. I know someone will show up later and give you one, or I wouldn’t be surprised if one hasn’t been made while I am typing this reply.

Small suggestion:
Drop-downs can either make or break your guide. Turning your whole guide into a bunch of drop-downs is not visually appealing. Breaking them apart with text is a great way to solve this issue.

Formatting rating:

4.2/10

Previous rating

3.4/10, +0.8

Final Rating:

… (another drumroll)

6.3/10

You went up +1.2 from the pre-revision rating!

Thanks for reading!

actually, since I am trust level 2(member), I have up to 30 days to edit this.

The title says “A Noob’s Guide:” so uh… you should probably add the gimkit-beginners tag to this…

They are essentially the same and adding that tag would probably help more people find this guide.

Edit - @EEe1, you don’t have to put (20 character), just do this < randomwordshere> but without the space inbetween the < and the words.

Alright(20 character)

Suggestion:
It would make more sense to use channels here, so your map wouldn’t get as crowded

I know, but this version is optional, which is why I didn’t use channels. And it actually only takes like 2-3 anvils, I just overused them since there’s no walls.

PREPARE TO BE CORRECTED LIKE IT’S ELA CLASS

Some more basic corrections

I decided to give guide-making a shot, and this guide will be the first in my series.

For the first part of this guide, you can do anything (as in pick any custom sentry you like). If you want, you can place a sentry or two and set it to Team 1, because in the average Gimkit Creative game, all players are on Team 1. However, you can also make sentries for each team! [1]

You can use either a trigger, button, or zone for this part, but I will be using a zone. Place the zone directly on top of the sentry. Not next to it, not in front of it – directly on top. Otherwise, the zone will not work correctly.

You can put any text you want in the pop-up – go wild! And don’t worry, the game code is hidden. [2]

Place a button right next to the sentry, then connect the button to the pop-up.

Step 3: Use a wire

Yay, we’re almost done! Keep up the good work! [3]

Step 4 (optional): Perhaps the character gives the player a quest, and the player can complete it for a reward! [4]

You – yes, you! – just finished a basic tutorial on transforming sentries into in-game characters!

Tips/questions
  • Use your dropdowns better; there are huge stretches of text without dropdowns, while short paragraphs get a dropdown to themselves.
  • You go on a tangent a few times too many.
  • Shorten the title lol
  • Add humour!
  • More formatting would be great, especially headers.
  • Images are naturally really big. Put them in dropdowns or reduce their size using the percentage buttons in the post editor. [5]
  • What is the poll for? A guide rating or a difficulty rating? And why are there four unrelated options?
  • Uhm, what exactly did you mean here? And is the bold really necessary? ↴
What I DID like
  • THERE. ARE. IMAGES!!!
  • You listened to and considered the feedback of other forumers
  • The guide is actually long enough to be a guide (NOT common round these parts)
  • Codes were hidden
  • Images are clear and straightforward

Sorry, my reviews can be pretty critical, but I don’t mean to be rude!

Other stuff

This is very grammatically incorrect. You can’t put the pronoun “it” followed by the subject repeated in the same sentence. You can say:
“I decided to take a shot at making guides.”
“I decided to attempt to make a guide.”
“I decided to try making a guide.”
“I decided to give it a shot.”
There are a lot of alternatives.

AHAHAHHEHHEHEHMMM ermmmmmm anschktually, *performer :index_pointing_up::nerd_face:

*Barely any negatives

Ampersands are generally considered more informal than simply using the word “and.”

Chat I’m so sorry, I’m just such a stickler for grammar and spelling :sob:

  1. I would remove the example here. ↩︎

  2. The rest of this paragraph is a bit off-topic. ↩︎

  3. I feel like the dropdown here wasn’t very necessary. ↩︎

  4. Your footnote was also unnecessary. ↩︎

  5. This is just my style tho ↩︎

bumpity bump…??? ok bump

bump, bumping time, yay

uhh you can just have a invis button on the sentry saying talk to [sentry name] and then that brings a pop-up at the bottom with call to actions for dialogue options.

you can make the barrier as small as you can and put it in the middle to make a “seeing” effect.
