Intro: I’m don’t usually do these guides, and this is an exception. I recently learned about the character, dialogue, and dialogue actions and thought about if sentries or popups would be better in some scenarios.
Sentry and Character:
Character advantages:
- The character is much cheaper memory-wise as it covers the cost of the button and the sentry costing only 200 memory.
- The character can be flipped left and right naturally without having to waste another sentry on another team.
- The character has no weapon and does not follow any map settings, so it’s bugs are limited.
- You can switch the character’s layers, so it can be hidden behind props.
- Like mentioned earlier, the character is simply a retextured button.
Sentry advantages:
- The sentry can hold a weapon
- The sentry can be fired at to do damage
- The sentry can be deactivated to disappear unlike the character, who simply just stops interacting.
- The sentry is more player-like, and comes with the features of item drop, respawn, name, health and shield, and having a team. (Imagine the sentry as an immobile player)
Conclusion: The sentry and characters have two very different uses, and that is intentional. The sentry is meant for fighting and the character is meant for simply being shown.
Dialogue and Popup:
Dialogue advantages:
- The dialogue has overall better UI with rounded corners and buttons.
- The dialogue also has the ability to add a Gim as an image although it can not show item images unlike the popup.
- The dialogue creates a typewriter effect when needed.
- The dialogue has a choice to darken or undarken the background.
- The dialogue has 4 actions/options as a default while the popup has only 2.
Popup advantages:
- The color of the popup can be changed.
- The popup image does not allow Gims, but allows item images and icons.
- The popup’s content can be changed by blocks and includes a block editor.
- The popup allows a header.
Conclusion: The dialogue is only for really speaking and interacting while the popup can be used for almost any situation.
The Dialogue Action:
There are no other alternatives to the dialogue action.
Props:
The season ticket exclusive props have more variation in desert themed maps like Apocalypse which all of the props are from, but some can be used anywhere like the gas pump. These props also can create new prop art.
Conclusion: The newest props give variation and detail in some circumstances and can help enhance your map.
Terrain:
The season ticket exclusive terrain can also help you spruce up your desert maps with detail, and also all do come from Apocalypse. They aren’t terrible, but not something that would change your map too much as the wasteland terrains are just retextured dirt/grass, and the others are just for detail. If you’re map is already filled with sand, don’t change it because it would only be a waste of time.
Conclusion: Terrain is not huge when it comes to season ticket exclusives because the season ticket only brings 6 new terrain to top-down which isn’t significant.
Actual conclusion: The newest season ticket props, terrain and devices can be a lot, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy it because the same things can be accomplished as already seen above with other devices. This, by all means is not forcing you to get the season ticket in any way, but just as information to the forums for you to decide.
