I was working on my platformer lately, and I’m pretty confident in the platformer design itself, but don’t know what to decorate it with and how to decorate it. I looked through idea-catalog and didn’t see anything on platformer decoration, so I was wondering if you guys could help me.
What is the game about?
/
What is the theme?
you could try making your own custom props. what is the summary of the game? if you tell me I can come up with some examples.
also can u add the platformer tag?
Please provide more details. I don’t think anyone can give ideas if there’s no context!
For toasty
@JustAToaster yes indeed2. 3.
For creepa reapa
@Reaper_leviathan I did a test on him today lemme explain lol
I give him 2 rules
- one sentence answers only
- type orange if you feel the need to say no but want to say yes
and guess what he said when I said
“do you ever wonder what it would be like to ask the question instead of knowing the answer”
he said…
orange
@Reaper_leviathan gemini
what just a home appliance said, the theme of your game can change what kind of decoration you would put in your game, like you wouldn’t put a crane in the background if its a demonic hellscape where magic exists.
@TheTruthofGKCF what’s the theme tho, is it just that, like just near bare bones and difficult
It’s a platformer that’s meant to be a bit difficult, but not too difficult. I don’t know how to explain it
.
What is the theme of your platformer?
Like medieval? Futuristic? Natural? Etc
For @Scary_Friend
Crazy bio change
It doesn’t really have a set theme.
Can you provide some images of your game?
I always get confused when glancing at your pfp @TheTruthofGKCF… i always think the topic is resolved :[
It progressively gets more difficult, but I wouldn’t exactly call it a difficulty chart. Let me get some images.
That would be great.
I have concieved an idea most ingenious! i know, what if you have the sequence of fibonacchi numbers just going out from the start to the end of the gameplay if the gameplay kinda veers just in one direction instead of it being a zig zag or something, like if it was a tower, just it doesn’t have to go up, in can be in any direction. (sorry if my explanation was bad)
I think in general all platformers need a combination of props and barriers to look good. Here is an example from my game, its not polished though so the transition doesn’t look the best right now but if you polish it it would look much nicer.
Invalid Code By The Way
Edit -
For @unavailible
GRAMMAR POLICE?!?! ![]()
The “i” in sentence 2 is not capitalized!
As shown here, the beginning is simple.
Then, there’s thin block jumps
Then, there’s some slopes
And then there is just slopes that get progressively larger and bigger, so won’t do images of those. This is just pretty simple in general.
By the way, the code I accidentally left in one of the screenshots shouldn’t work anymore, so it’s fine.
Ohh, I see why you want help.
Maybe add barrier art of your check mark near the beginning? Would be kinda cool
try making a big pile of forgotten props. example:
Lolz @Scary_Friend but who’s “him?”
also @clam_chowder remember to stay on topic ![]()
@clam_chowder we can work on the fishing game tommorow
In my opinion catwalk is just an ugly terrain alone so maybe use a different terrain or make custom ones with barriers and or props.
Edit - Slope jumps are also kinda ugly/weird in my opinion, I would probably build it into the game, example:
@Scary_Friend I meant that plain slope jumps like just orange barriers are ugly and they should be decorated and built into the game.
Oh I love platformers! Especially when it comes to decorated ones! They always have so much potential, but not too many people reach out and grasp it.
For one, having a set theme for your platformer rather than ‘random stuff to jump on’ is better. Since you have a challenging platformer, you could several themes, like:
- Crawling out of a hole/cave after you fell in
- Escaping the Void
- Dungeon crawl!
- and more!
Just try to more original, the more the better!
Custom backgrounds are nice! Depending on your theme, you could have a different background other than the default blue sky. For example, if you’re doing a Void theme, then you could do a black background with scattered stars. This guide can help with tips and ideas.
Finally, props! Props always spice up platformers. Be sure to make them have no-collision so that they don’t obstruct players! You can also combine different props (or maybe item images and other visible devices!) to create new props!
I might make some reference photos, but don’t count on it. Hope this helps! (Here’s another guide on making a good platformer. It has some tips on decor —> How to make fun and visually appealing parkour!)
@clam_chowder please stay on topic, consider editing one of your previous posts instead of creating a new one.
To debate that, I love slope jumps cus my friends don’t know how to do it but I do ![]()
@JustAToaster Ohhh, got it lol. Who doesnt love a good slope jump am i right
.
.
Anyway, @CommanderGOAT did a great job with details, so if I was to choose i’d say him, but you can have all the time you need!
(@clam_chowder pls dont go off topic
)
