Props in Detail: Chapter 2 - Dirt & Moss

Just A Little Wisdom

[1]
Is it really funny?

When I was a newbie, which wasn’t that long ago I didn’t know anything about the most basic props like rocks, dirt, moss, etc.

It took me hours [2]to find some little information about these props.

I made this guide and the one before.

Should this guide be for beginners? I’ll make a poll at the end of this guide!

Anyways…

Welcome!!!

Props in Detail: Chapter 2 - Dirt & Moss

This is the 2nd Chapter in the Series! This time it’s about Dirt & Moss, not about Rocks. [3]

I am the creator @HelloSmartie. We have 2 Chapters in the series currently, with more to come!

[4]

This is only my second time making a guide.

So I would still love to improve my guide-making skills.

I accept constructive criticism.

Are you literally gonna do the same thing over again? That’s so lame!

If you were wondering, I won’t exactly copy the same thing over again. I’ll just do the same. I’ll mix up some things to make it more interesting.

BORING

Once again… I am not doing the Season Ticket Dirt & Moss, because I [5] don’t have the Season Ticket

You should get Season Ticket

This is something that my advisor gave me a couple weeks ago. They said it was urgent but I put it off for something else. The chapters are linked. So you can look at the previous chapters.

You were too lazy to read it. Just ADMIT IT for once!

Chapter 3 - Coral and Shells (By @fred_beans! Upcoming!)
Chapter 4 - ???(Put your suggestions in the Comments)

Let’s move on to Dirt & Moss!

The reason I’m doing Dirt & Moss together is because they are both the same kind of prop. The only difference is that they are different colors.

Dirt & Moss

I’ll use the same format as the previous guide. This is the format:

number-size-name

Dirt Section

This area will be where all the Dirt will be.

There happens to be 11 different types of Dirt Prop.

1MediumDirt

This is just a medium sized piece of dirt. Only 1 piece of dirt.

The color is brown.

1ExtraLargeDirt

This is just 3 very big pieces of dirt in one prop. This is the color brown.

1LargeDirt

This is one extremely large piece of dirt. Also is the color brown.

2MediumDirt

This is very similar to 1MediumDirt

The sides are just different.

1SmallDirt

3 pieces of very small dirt in the prop. Is the color Brown.

3MediumDirt

The next is the Moss Section!

1Medium-LargeMoss

This is not too big and not too small. Also it is green.

1ExtraLargeMoss

There is 1 Large Moss combined with 2 medium Moss. It is also green.

Now that we have finished this, let’s move on to what we can do with the Dirt & Moss props.

Dirt can be used to decorate your outdoor environment like parks, roads, grass and nature in general.

Dirt can be also used to make a pathway.

Moss can be used to decorate something abandoned, like an abandoned lab. It can also occasionally be on the outside.

Now how should you decorate Dirt & Moss?

I’ll show you a couple of ways to decorate with Dirt & Moss.

Thanks for the guide?

Unfortunately, I can’t read all this but I read half of it, I’m not a good reader. Anyway, add some landscape and details to it. In chapter 5. And maybe make it nighttime.

Decoration Tips

Use Dirt to break up flat grass areas and create kinda natural-looking trails.
Use Moss to add decay and environmental to structures.
Use Layering for Realism. You don’t have to just place a flat piece. Stack, rotate and overlap different dirt shapes.
Use Bordering Paths to create uneven edges around gravel or stone paths.
Moss Patching: you don’t have to cover the WHOLE wall in moss, create patches of moss placing from corners, pipes, or shady areas. (You know, to make it look like it’s a little old. (For chapter 5).

Here's MY point of view

Here's My Reasoning

This is so you can get a better understanding of what I’m talking about and the things all around you.

Hope that helps with your stories.

For chapter 4 you should do trees!

This is actually a really good guide.

Maybe sort the props in the dropdowns? Like sort it by size, then number
This would make it a bit easier to look through and would make it look nicer

Um I thought I did that… can you clarify a bit?

Yah… I could but You could just look at the name. I put it in order from where they were when you searched it up in the props.
@potato123 I’ll do that in the next chapter!

Here, the sizes are out of order, first medium, then XL, then large

Maybe add more moss examples, there is only one currently.

Hey, @HelloSmartie, do you know if I can do Chapter 4 and do something of your choice?

Hey @fred_beans you can totally do whatever you pick.
I haven’t started Chapter 3 yet
You can pick. Just tell me.
Follow the same format of the other Chapters.
Make it that high quality also!

Well I posted something from an unposted map for the one about rocks, so here’s stuff from an unposted map and my posted map.

Hm… I have an idea… can I take Chapter 3 and change it to something like coral, and instead have Chapter 4 being signs?

I have something for coral I can give you.

First, a Coral is used here as a dead plant:

And then here’s this thing (this was made when I was still in 7th grade, btw):

It shows evolution/growth lines for Coral because they look like weird alien plants.

Again, this was made in 7th grade, so my ADHD thoughts weren’t as focused as they are now, which is why I made this after seeing the Corals for the first time.

It looks like Pokemon evolution, but I may be able to use it.
@HelloSmartie, my final decision for Chapter 3 is Corals & Shells.

I like to see that this series is being continued!
Once again, another S-tier prop-art guide.

@HelloSmartie, How long do you intend for this series to go on? Because[1], I’d love to contribute!

  1. if possible ofc ↩︎

Sorry for the late reply…
I think I would continue for like 8 more chapters. If possible.
Making it a series of 10.
Chapter 3 is taken. You can do Chapter 4 if you prefer. Just tell me the topic
@fred_beans cool! just follow the format I did!
Im going to change it from Signs to Corals & Shells in the catalog of contents!
