Hi! I am making a metroidvania, and I want ideas for lore.
There are 4 regions in development, and 1 more coming.
if I like any lore ideas you give, I will put them in the game.
I will take non-lore advice as well.
Thanks;
Swordking
I will let you know if I have chosen your advice.
Whats a metroidvania?
A open world where the player must collect ākey itemsā in order to advance.
Hollow knight
REAL
Hollow knight is a must.
But can you please clarify what a Metroidvania is?
A Metroidvania game is a subgenre of action-adventure platformers characterized by its interconnected, non-linear world where players progress through exploration and must acquire new abilities to access previously unreachable areas. The genreās name is a portmanteau of āMetroidā and āCastlevania,ā two series credited with pioneering the style.
(the google ai definition )
here is a description taken from Wikipedia; Metroidvania [a] is a sub-genre of action-adventure games and/or platformersfocused on nonlinearexploration and guided progression with a need to acquire key items to enter certain areas
Ah.
So more open world rpg?
I thought metroidvania is a game lol
Welp, hollow knight is a must, also does rainworld count.
Epiā¦
OH NO SAMMYS BACK
Wait, are you making your own metroidvania, or basing it off of a existing game.
some elements of the game are based off of rain world, but only loosely.
You could have players find keys which can be used to unlock new areas?
It seems hollow knight is already being made by gimtendo.
hm. were you inspired by that post?
Well i mean itās inspired by hollow knight but not 1-1
HE SAID THE WORD
Ok, time to provide some
LOOOOOORRRRRREEEEEE!!!
Your name is Sirath, the former Captain of the Guard for the Kingdom Of Emberwall. Centuries ago, the sister of your liege, King Gimrick III, lay siege to the castle keep in an attempt to seize power, as while she was the firstborn, only men were allowed to rule the kingdom. Cast out from her home, she roamed the Northern Woods at the base of the Dragonclaw Mountains for years, taking on the name of Raveena the Witch, and began to dabble in dark magic and necromancy. One late winter night, she began a ritual in an abandoned graveyard, from which she raised an army of restless souls known as Ozis. Combined with the wild Geckasauruses she had tamed, she now had a large army with which to wage war against her brother. But you had raised defenses so superior around the City of Emberheart, she could not breach it by brute force alone. Thus she made a deal with the followers of the Cult of The Eye, that in exchange for them opening the castle gates, she would use her magic to begin a ritual to summon their deity. Upon breaching the walls, she lay waste to the city, with your men falling before her, and your King falling before your very eyes, struck down by Raveenaās Wooden Wand. Using a prototype gadget known as a Quantum Portal, you were able to decapitate her, but the blast from the Portalās power knocked you into a Chamber Of Rejuvenation, a recent development obtained from a deal with the Southern Druids before they elected a dictator known as Snapdragon for a leader. Thus, you have lay in this pod for centuries, healing from your wounds. When you awake, you find your Chamber stored in the Dungeons, with Cultists guarding you. After dispatching them, you find a note on them saying the Iron Sphere used to power the exit has been hidden deep within the Dungeon. After fighting through Cultists and dodging spikes and lava, you obtain the Sphere, and exit the Dungeon into the Emberwall Ruins. Here you learn that they have taken Raveenaās body to the Northern Woods in an attempt to revive her. You use an old trail system that has been infested with Geckasaurus and Fuzzfoots to reach Raveenaās Hut, only to find it warded by ancient magic, denying you entry. Incompetent in the domain of the arcane, you decide to seek help from the Southern Druids of the Far Plains. Upon arrival however, you find the land overgrown with strange pink roots, and the local green Druids scared and erratic. The source of their panic comes from their leader, Snapdragon, who is wearing a Jewel Of Destruction that enhances his powers at the cost of all good emotions, leaving only hate. Upon defeating him, you are told this stone can be combined with the Iron Sphere in the Dwarven Mines in the Dragonclaw Mountains to form an Eye of Evil, capable of shattering ancient magic wards. You then trek to the base of Mt. Snowy to enter the Mines, for once finding a time to rest while Orehound Of House Gimli forges your gadget, giving you time to heal. Upon obtaining the Eye Of Evil, you return to Raveenaās Hut, break the ward and enter, hoping to stop her revival. Unfortunately, it is too late, and you are knocked out by a blast of dark magic. You wake to find you Eye is being used to summon the cultists deity, and when Cthulhu appears, Raveena asks him for power. He blows her to pieces, the shockwave from the blast shattering your chains and sending her Wand to your feet. You now must defeat the Eye Of Cthulhu, or else lose your soul to it.

I got you guys
Metroidvanias are games that are ALMOST like an open world, as you donāt need everything to complete the game. They arenāt linear, meaning challenges have more than one way of beating them, though you might be nudged in the right direction. Theyāre usually platformer games. An AMAZING example of this is⦠Hollow Knight. Everyone knows Hollow Knight (though Iāve never played it).
HAHAHA IāM GOING TO LORE IT UP
A long time ago, there were four parties (if I knew the areas I would name the parties). They all lived in harmony, until one day a great imbalance came to the world. Rumors of a grand scheme of world dominance started to spread, and (in fear of being attacked) one of the parties became hostile. However, what they DIDNāT know is that this ārumorā was a total misunderstanding and miscommunication, but it was too late. The world descended into chaos, leaving everything in ruins.
You, the player, are a descendant of one of the partiesā leaders, but you donāt know that (yet).
Oh, and to clarify a few of the names in my lore for their more practical applications:
Iron Sphere = Zapper (Rare Rarity)
Eye Of Evil = Evil Eye (Epic)
Jewel Of Destruction = Heavy Shard
Raveenaās Wand = Wooden Wand (Legendary)
Eye Of Cthulhu = Focus Gim
Druid = Green Evil Plant
Snapdragon (Druid Leader) = Pink Evil Plant
This is great! while I canāt fully use it, I see some promise. I will use some parts of it.
Great!
I will add the 4 parties, but not all will be added.
