Kirby Air Riders in Gimkit?

I really want to make a Kirby Air Riders type game in Gimkit, so I have a few questions going into this:

  1. Could I make the boost charge mechanic? Basically, you can drift by slowing down a bit and charging a boost to quickly speed up.
  2. Could I make the flight mechanic? When going off a ledge, some machines can glide or even fly for quite a bit.
  3. Could I make specials? Kirby Air Riders introduced specials, basically a final smash on the race course.
  4. How would copy abilities work? Do I just make them like Mario kart item boxes?

I know it’s a lot of questions, but I’ve found this game to be extremely fun and I want to make a new Gimkit game.

Also, I plan for this to be in platformer.

Okay, the boost charge mechanic seems possible. How about pressing a game overlay button increases a counter? You’re meant to spam the button until the counter reaches a certain number, which gives you a speed boost.

If you’re okay with a clunky mechanic, you can put little disappearing barriers that you can land on for a very small amount of time throughout the fall, to slow the player down.

I’ve never played a Kirby game in my entire lifespan so I probably misunderstood something, go ahead and correct me if I got a thing wrong lol

But would city trial be possible tho?

Probably, but it would be severely limited.

I might have to make this in top-down, though the current plan is platformer.

ye, you could use an overlay button that increases the plates speed for a little. not sure how you would do the drift part.

uhh, not sure about this one. I don’t think there is any way to make a player “float”.

You can probably make a zone near the end of the race that activates an overlay button when entered, then they can press it and a barrier can appear behind them for a phew seconds, blocking other players.

Ye the boxes would probably be best.

Good, because it wouldn’t be a Kirby “AIR” Riders with out platforming lol

Well, a Special move is supposed to be… well… special.
And the way they charge in the game is by attacking enemies on the track.

That just gave me a REALLY good idea!!!
Attacking sentries on the track can give copy abilities!!!

That could work, actually. In the game, you hold the button, but with the limitations of Gimkit, that system might be better.

Here’s a visualization of the boost charge:

To be honest, you could try to take @ClicClac’s GK8 as inspiration.

I could, but there are still mechanics I’ll have to figure out.

Speed modifiers might work for the boost charge, and item granters for the item boxes.

I have never played it but for gliding or flying you can have an invisible barrier with a custom angle and active time for each machine (idk how this works can you provide a summary of the game)

For drifting it might be complicated or even impossible but I think you might be able to use the player coordinate device for it.

Well I’d definitely use speed modifiers, but I want the player to have to slow down before speeding up.

This game might have to be made in top-down…

Maybe an overlay you press slows your speed, then after a delay, another overlay pops up to speed up?

Something like that

Like a quick time event?

Interesting…

um I don’t think you can do a Kirby air riders mechanics I gimkit

because there is no way to be able to ride anything In gimkit

Well, yeah. I know you can’t ride anything in Gimkit. That’s why the machines would just be stat changes. That’s the whole reason why you can make Mario Kart and stuff too.

you can??? I did not know that

You might be able to make a system where you press the gameplay overlay button, it starts the speed boost , when pressed again it stops, and it has a charge bar for how long you have this boost which is powered by the speed modifier. Idk how this game works but if it recharges you can make the bar recharge overtime using a property or by doing a certain action.

OOOO, maybe it could be connected to a counter that ticks up for how long you charge, and resets after the 2nd press
