I wouldn’t make this if there weren’t tons of parkour maps on discovery that aren’t good at all but there are so let’s get started.
WARNING
The examples used in this are based off of a map that already exists, come up with your own ideas.
Step 1 - Name ideas
Find a good name for your game. Don’t just use “[Name]’s difficulty chart”, use something original. An example (already used) is pawrcore. It also matches the theme of the game because each level was called a “core”.
Step 2 - Choosing Levels
You don’t have to use specific levels/checkpoints (if you have any at all), but make something original. The map that inspired this guide was called “Pawrcore” and each checkpoint was called a “core”. You don’t have to use basic difficulty chart setup for your game, use something original.
Step 3 - Difficulty
Do you want it to be hard the whole game? Easy the whole game? What is the difficulty. Making it too easy won’t result in that good of a map but making it too hard can make people quit. Don’t include things that are impossible, but don’t make it the easiest platformer in the world. [1]
Step 4 - Building
It’s time to start building. Use a variety of terrain and props to build the base. You can also use lasers.
Step 5 - Other challenges
Here are some other challenges that you could add in.
Laser counter
Add a laser blocking the path to a checkpoint. Add a counter. Make the laser transmit on a channel when the player is hit.
Then add a counter. Make it increment when receiving on the laser’s channel. Then add a target value that transmits on a different channel.
Now make the laser deactivate when receiving on the target channel.
Take a barrier to block the path to the checkpoint. Then make it deactivate when it receives on the target channel.
And you’re done! Remember you can change the size and numbers in things, the target value is how many times you must get hit by the laser before it deactivates.
Courses
In order to get past a certain point, you could make it so that the user must complete a certain amount of parkour courses to continue. This could sound like a bad idea but encourages teamwork to help move quicker.
Far props
We know there is a maximum jump limit, yet most people can’t jump that far on their first try. Adding props far away from each other can add some extra challenge.
Hidden props
You can’t completely hide props. However, using a wooden spoon, you can set the alpha to .15 and size to as small as you can. These are very small and hard to see, making the game a lot harder.
Hidden parkour
You can hide parkour by making a prop huge and disabling collision. Then, you can hide parkour behind it or make the parkour first and put that in front of it. This makes it a lot harder.
So, that’s it for now. I may add more later but it’s 1 in the morning so I’m not adding anything else tonight.
Any questions can be asked and:
THE NAMING IDEAS AND OTHER THINGS WERE NOT MADE BY ME OR ANYONE ON THIS SITE, DO NOT STEAL THEIR WORK!!!
I know you guys can make something original and I should add more later this morning ![]()
I do NOT recommend using slope jumping, from what I have learned it is a bug that shouldn’t exist and is unfair. You should probably just use hard jumps. ↩︎
