How to Make a Daylight Cycle (Pics Included)

Supplies

Summary

2 counters, 2 repeaters, 1 lifecycle, 2 overlays, black barrier

here is the finished product

First, take the counter, a repeater, and the lifecycle, and arrange them as shown in the first diagram. Wire the lifecycle to the repeater like this:

then, set the repeater settings to this

Oh, sorry it isn’t shown but the time to stop is 10 seconds.
Wire the repeater to the lifecycle like this
Start repeater>>>>>>> decrement counter.
The counter should have a target for zero.
Now, put a barrier over the entire zone you are using. Set it to collision off, and make it black with a .50 transparency, and off upon game start. wire the repeater to the barrier
target reached>>>>>>>> show barrier
now, when you run the game, after the counter counts down to it’s designated number, the barrier should activate and it will be nighttime!!

But how do you get it to be day again?

First, take another counter, and repeater along with the two overlays.
wire the first counter to the second repeater, these should have the same settings as the first ones.
Target value reached >>>>> start repeater.
After that, wire the second repeater to the second counter with these settings
repeater runs task>>>>>> decrement counter.
wire the second counter to the first repeater
target value reached>>>>>>> start repeater. This will start progressing towards a daylight cycle. next set the first overlay with this setting.

and the second one with these settings

These will say whether it is day or night.
Now, wire the first counter to the first overlay (the one for nighttime.)
Target value reached>>>>> hide overlay
and the second counter to the second overlay like this.
Target value reached >>>>> show overlay
also wire the second counter to the barrier
Target value reached >>>>> deactivate barrier.

Remember, if you get stuck, just look at the diagram at the very beginning of this guide.

Now wire the first counter to the second overlay
Target value reached>>>>>>show overlay.

Wire that same counter to the second repeater
Target value reached>>>>>> start repeater
At this point, I realized a glitch in my system. here is the new diagram.

You need to wire the counters to each other
Target value reached>>>>>>> reset counter
copy that vice versa.

if there’s a glitch let me know, and I’ll fix it

cause I just play tested it and it works

Woa, this seems really cool!
I can’t do the whole constructive critism thing but here is suggestions:

Use dropdowns!

Summary

like this

Use _ (x3) to create:

Create bigger words like:

This

Put a = under the word you want bigger!

Great guide but you can rename the dropdowns and Mabey add some jokes

Changed the title for a more professional look lol.

Bro the ironic thing is..

I was in the middle of making one :sob:

I changed it :+1:

oops
srry
my bad I think it works tho

did it work tho? I really think it will. But I also had a lot going on= hard to track

Hello!
As the annoying pie eater I am, I’m gonna try and rate this!
Remember:
THIS IS MY OWN FORMAT.
People may have other formats so my grading may not be that accurate.
Separation
Clearance
Grammar
Effort
Humor
Importance
Order.

Separation: 4.5/10

In my opinion, this guide does not have good separation.
The other thing that needs more things is to put more steps in the sections that DO have seperation so it isn’t just a sentence and a picture and so on.
Make sure to also SEPERATE paragraphs when there’s 6 or 7 sentences.

Grammar: 6.5/10

What BurntFrenchfry said.

Clearance: 6.75/10

Although it does have some things that are clear, there are some large paragraphs like these, that should be separated into more steps.

Effort: 6.5/10

Although it is good, it can still be improved with some more organizing and clearance.
I know you worked probably a long time on this, but you should definitely use more dropdowns for SEPERATE steps.

Humor: 1.5/10

Not much going on here, except this line.

Importance: 9.25/10

Just a single line. It might be me, but I honestly think something that doesn’t work for a sec should be mentioned ONLY in humor.

Order: 3.5/10

I feel like the order of this is VERY messed up.
We have:

  • The finished product at the start
  • Long paragraphs that don’t have pictures.
  • No ending.
    Grade: 38/70 (may be miscalculated)

I have nothing else to do with my life, so I might as well rate this ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Organization: 2/10

The one dropdown used still had “Summary” on it (one of my pet peeves, lol), and most of the guide was just a big honking chunk of text. The images weren’t separate from the text, so it all kinda blended together. It needs more formatting.

Grammar: 3.5/10

Run-on sentences, missing capitalization, no punctuation, and other grammar mistakes in general. There’s room for a lot of improvement.

Helpfulness/Originality: 8.5/10

There aren’t any other guides on this, so points for originality! This is a mechanic that could be useful in a bunch of games. The organization and grammar could make it harder to understand, though.

Efficiency: 6/10

Repeaters. Need I say more?

Humor: 1/10

I like my guides with some JOKES. There aren’t really any in here.

Remember, this is all some rando on the internet’s opinion, so don’t take this too close to heart. I hope this helps you out with any future guides you make!

Ciao!

You should add a GIF for demonstration.
Also maybe try to make it more memory efficient… this takes up 1470 memory (without counting wires)
The lowest amount of memory I could get it to was 130. (without counting wires)

ok, please show me how.

ok, I am sorry about the ‘summary’ bit, and I didn’t think about humor. lol because I am normally very funny. Grammar, I was a bit lax on this time. again lol, cause I am also very strict on grammar.

With all the suggestions, this probably should be a wiki. Then all the suggestions can be done by the people who made them

also, dropdowns are a big thing to use in this type of guide, because then you’re scrolling for a bit to reply/edit

ah, so then @wolf.rising2025 just add things that need to be added.

and I wasn’t expecting so many suggestions…

A Wiki can only be made by a tl3 if they are the OP. So he himself should just add the suggestions others told them.
