@Diamonds, before you post your Research Topic:
the rant
The research topic fiasco: what not to do
Really quickly, I’m not trying to critcize or hurt anyone with this. This is an IMPORTANT message, not ANY POST will be linked or mentioned here.
One more thing, I am being somewhat hypocritical because I have created some of these problems before, but I know not to and am here to list the issues to gather the attention of new users or ones that have been here for a while who do not know to NOT create one of these problems with research topics.
The Issues With New Research Topics
1. Not Describing Enough Information of What You are Trying to do
This one is upsetting, you might even feel it’s an exception, but:
IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE INFORMATION, it’s a HELP TOPIC!
This is very frustrating to users who are trying to participate in some ACTUAL research, but all they find are these topics THAT ARE MEANT TO BE HELP TOPICS.
Keep this in mind!
2. Not Having ANYTHING To Start the Research
This one is upsetting, also similar to the problem above, where users make a research topic without ANYTHING to begin the research. These topics, (example below), SHOULD ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS, go into help.
Example: “RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR… POSSIBLE?”
(So far the title is fine, NOT THE TOPIC, of course, but let’s see the post.)
Example of the Post: “OK guys, is this possible…???”
RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR... POSSIBLE?
OK guys, is this possible...????????
THIS SHOULD be a help topic. But it’s not, and that just causes a lot more clutter. A LOT, more than you would think but it sure is A LOT of clutter, and that wastes the mods and TL4s time. There is a thin line between RESEARCH topics and HELP topics, but use reasoning like so: “Should this really be a research topic?”.
In conclusion for this problem, IF IT’S A QUESTION… PUT IT IN HELP!
3. Misusing Blackhole’s “It’s Not Impossible” Speech
Example:
“Research on How to do [impossible action]”
but like
“Research on How to Grant the Player Free GIMBUCKS!!!”
This is NOT what Blackhole927 meant with the speech. Anything, any actions within the boundaries of what was created or can be created is possible to create. Not doing things that can only be possible with mods.
All these research topics do is create clutter, making the forums hardly enjoyable as a place to ask questions.
4. Duplicate Research Topics
Alright, no one needs 2 research topics for the same thing. This is yet another thing that creates clutter- and no user need clutter.
One is fine, more than fine.
Two, really is an issue. The non-original one needs to be deleted.
Three, alright, no one should make a TRIPLICATE research topic. It makes a ton of work for the mods and TL4s.
Any more duplicates than these will have a chance of getting you suspended, if you made one and maybe even if you posted in one.
(Non mod-confirmed)
5. Using Tags That Don’t Match
This one’s a minor issue, but it can be hard while looking for a certain topic using tag search, and you see a research topic that didn’t need that tag. With one, this isn’t that bad, but it happens a lot. I find this very annoying.
Clay-institute should be only added when the research has gotten nowhere over a long period of time.
Things like a 3D Grapher, no matter how difficult the subject would be to create in Gimkit Creative, SHOULD NOT have clay-institute tag. If it’s been a month from when you made the research topic and a decent amount of users are participating in the research but it’s getting nowhere, no one is even close to creating this, then yes, you SHOULD use the clay institue tag.
It’s that simple, let’s keep these forums clean.
Conclusion
As long as you avoid these 5 mistakes, you will be helping keep the forums clean.
Also, I will like to mention InkyDarkBird’s rule:
No bumping research topics without helping or contributing the research.
Make sure you follow this rule as well.
I didn’t want this to be a hanful for you all to read, so I kept it short and simple. I hope you read it clearly and understood, but if you have any questions feel free to ping me!
Q&A
`Question`
Answer
But what if I don’t have the information to start a research topic?
That will ALWAYS be a help topic. Always. If you’re asking a question, it’s a help topic, unless it’s a question about devices in the devices category, but it SHALL NOT be a research topic.
Rant took a while to read I would assume, sorry
