FAQ About The Gimkit Awards, and answering your questions

Hello once again you… morally questionable ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, neithers, boths, in-betweens, or whatever else you are, and now, it’s finally time…

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!

Basically, we’re going to do a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section, and I’ll answer whatever questions you have that aren’t on our FAQ. If your question is on the FAQ, I will both be rather angry that you decided to not read this post, shame on you, I spend a good chunk of time writing these (this has taken 10 minutes already, mostly because I got distracted), but secondly, I will not answer it a second time. I’ve had to repeat myself so much, I’m sure you can understand. Probably still going to have to repeat myself several times, but I also need to shut up because I’ve made this first paragraph go on far long enough.

FAQ STARTS BELOW!

Who even are you? Why are you a leader? Why are you here?

1- Hi! I’m Unstable, You could call me James or Jessica if you were someone I liked, and I’m your favorite freakshow! You’ll come to know me and my strange personality somewhat well if you follow the awards and it’s topics closely.
2- Originally, this was so I could fully manage the gimkit awards myself. Unfortunantly, I can’t deal with flags, so I’m operating at like half volume, meaning I’m doing about half as much as I could.
3- Mind your own business. Nah, I’m kidding, partially, I’m here to just get the community engaged in something that would actually be beneficial instead of tearing each other down for the… goodness knows how many times that’s happened.

When are the gimkit awards?

The gimkit awards will be happening in April of 2025.

What are the gimkit awards?

The gimkit awards are an awards ceremony made to show off the hard work of the community.

Am I supposed to make a map for the awards?

No. The gimkit awards are not something you make a map for directly, as that would be basically the opposite of the actual point. Regardless, the gimkit awards goes off of maps that were already made, but more on that in a minute.

What are the requirements?

There are no requirements necessarily, you will only need to be someone/have made a map that fits one or more of the categories. The map could have been made at any given point within creative’s life span, so it doesn’t have to be new. Is that in it of itself a requirement? Maybe, probably not.

How do I enter so I can win?

You don’t enter the awards. If you want a chance at winning, you need to be nominated. Read the below FAQ questions for further details.

How/Where do I vote?

We will have some system on some website (our decision on how we’re going to host voting and submissions is not final) and we will have links to it in both the discord and on the forums, with potentially more platforms also getting support depending on what the team can do. I will update this if we can officially support more platforms.

What are the submissions? How do I get my map/myself nominated?

To get this out of the way, submissions and nominations are, at least for the awards, the same thing. We will have a nomination phase of the event in April, likely the first week, where you can nominate maps/people to win an award. Everyone with a certain amount of nominations (Which will be determined based on a per-category basis and will likely change heavily depending on the amount of people nominating themselves) will move on to the final vote. The final vote will determine who wins and who does not.

What do the winners get?

Technically, that much is not 100% confirmed, though I can basically guarantee that it’ll be the same system for prizes as last year, which was the following:
First place- 5000 Gimbucks
Second place- 3000 Gimbucks
Third place- 1000 Gimbucks

Everyone else who made it to the final vote but did not get enough votes will not win a prize. Sorry folks.

Will any of this be seen in the actual official gimkit website?

No. There won’t be anything showcasing who won, nothing showing who participated, nothing even acknowledging that the awards exist. The staff said that would be too much work, and I can abide by that decision.

Can the same person/map win multiple awards?

As of right now, yes, though at the time of writing this I’m running it by the team to change this over to a no.

Depending on what we decide, this queston’s answer may change. I will remove this section of text if the response stays the same, and if it doesn’t, then obviously the answer will change. You should check back here at some point, to see what the answer ended up being.

Why are platformer maps disqualified?

Platformers have been a paid feature since march. That’s around nine (9)months of being paid, more accurately about eight and a half (8 ½). After they become free for everyone, they’ll have been a free feature for just about five (5) months. That’s just blatantly pay to win for the gimkit awards in my eyes, and I’m not down for that.

Who all is working on this?

Well outside of me, here’s your list!

I can still ask questions, right?

Absolutely, just keep them in this post.

What about the new season ticket exclusive stuff? Why is that fine but platformers aren't?

The new season ticket stuff is a very difficult case. I absolutely wouldn’t allow it, if that was something we could reasonably moderate, but we genuinely can’t. There’s no AI that can comb through every map for everything, there’s no shot we’ll have the time to run through every map just to check if there’s something that’s a season ticket exclusive, so there’s just no reasonable way for us to moderate it if we ban it.

How will prizes be split for a team?

We’re going to ask for everyone who we can get the email for on the team to get the prize, but if that proves unreasonable, which is very much a possibility, then teams will just have to draw straws on who gets the prize.

More FAQ questions are bound to be written, so you should check back here every once in a while.
Now, we have the FAQ written, so please, ask me/my team some questions about the awards!

I might bite occasionally, but they don’t.

Updates to FAQ will be mentioned down here.
Update: We have new info on platformers (Not really, but go read it anyways, we had a minor update). Also, I wrote up a few new pieces of information, they’re near the bottom of the list, go read them.

Hey hey hey, December 17th, added some new FAQ terms a couple days ago, forgot to say something, and I changed the wording on others. Hope everything is nice and clear now. Let me know if you have something you think is worth putting on the FAQ.

As of now, you’ll need to decide the person that will be receiving the prize. However we’re still waiting to confirm Team Gimkit’s input on sponsoring the prizes.

All members get the prize, as long as we can get their emails. Need to put this in the FAQ, thanks for asking!

Do you think it would be possible for the winners to get a special gim that’s like a trophy saying what place they got and in what category? (1st place would get a gold one, 2nd a silver, and 3rd a bronze)

I will publicly shame you if you don’t, both here and on the discord. Do not force my hand.

Absolutely not. Prizes are as described in what the winners get, nothing more, nothing less. Team gimkit barely agreed with the prizes as is, I’m not even going to try to push it any further.

In my view, most likely not.
(it would be cool if so though!)

( I bh would win but it still would be cool)

you should put that here

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

And it hasn’t been free for eight and a half months. That doesn’t change anything.

All of GKC is technically in “beta” for starters. There also really isn’t a way to level the ground for platformers in the GKA awards without it being considered “pay to win” so we might as well just not qualify them for this year. It may not be ideal for some, but we want everyone to have an equal opportunity to win in the awards.

Woo hoo, finally a good and useful Gimkit awards topic. Thank you so much Unstable for creating this so that the other topic doesn’t become a toxic mess. (That’s a lot coming from me, considering that I’m Toxic.)
