2025 Fall Gim Jam!

I quit coding, but this could be fun :D. If I were to in any possible way win, would I be able to give the ST to someone else, even if I didn’t work with them? P.S. I’m most likely cooked, so…

I thought the rules above stated that you should stay inconspicuous about your game, unless I’m wrong?

You can pass on the prize to someone else. We wouldn’t even know the difference lol.

This looks interesting. I might make a game or something
Also does the game/map need to have some kind of lore or objective? Or would it be more of a chill game where you just explore or something ?

We are giving y’all full creative freedom. Any kind of game or map is fine but we do prefer that you follow the theme.

That reminds me, may I give some suggestions on what players can add? Please since this existed I’ve been dying to write an essay on what players can add to their forest games
Or should they deal with it- find it out themselves?

That’s not probably gonna happen. Cough cough
Back to drinking gallons of caffeine while working on my map ;-;

I think you can, if the person asks for help from you specifically.

I probably won’t be participating but Yoyo is gonna win[1]

This looks neat but uh I have a few recommendations? I guess you could call them? Of course I’m not in your position and don’t know how hard it is to implement this stuff so take it with a grain of salt.

First, for the theme I feel like most game jams[2] theme aren’t a setting like “Forest” but more a concept. Like the two I’ve been in were “Predictably Unpredictable” and “Death is not the End”. I’ve also seen one called “Love is Blind.” I personally feel this allows for more creativity while still keeping a clear theme vice just Forest.

Second, the whole theme being optional thing- One of the main judging point of a game is the theme I feel personally and saying that its only encourage feels kind of… removing the main part of a jam? I’m not sure of the right word.

Third, this is the most iffy suggestion because it’s more of what I do and of course is not my project. Personally I would assemble a small panel of judges to do the judging. This is so you can stop people from submitting their own map anonymously and then being able to spam vote for themselves. You could use the leaders can the judges but they tend to be busy, so I would do something like people can willingly give up being in the jam to judge. Like I said this is extra work that you probably can’t afford being extremely busy.

Finally, having hosting a gim jam-esk thing before I think a less then two week time frame is way too short… Personally I would have it end mid/late October, which considering the season doesn’t end until December 3rd would be perfectly fine. Games, especially good games take a lot of time and I feel that all of us are typically busy being in school, and people in high school or with harder courses would have a harder time dedicating time to work on this since Gimkit is low on a priority list.

Oh and I just have a question. This is labeled as 2025 Fall Gim Jam… Is there gonna be a spring one? Or is it just named that… just cause?

Yeah, I think a longer time frame would be way more helpful, since people are probably rushing to get it done. The quality of the games are definitely going to get worse. Also, Yoyo is not winning >:). P.S. Jk he will.

About the submissions thing and the voting. Are you going to have the contestants send creative links to their map, so people can play them and test it? Or is it going to be in a Google form and you’ll post the links after? If it’s in a Google form, I think it might be blocked in some areas.

i’ll do this (ik I’m cooked)
but will there be a form to put the game links in?

But all those websites are banned for me…

but if you posted on either of those, it wouldn’t be anonymous, because you need an Wix or discord account and the username might give it away to who’s posting the game.

I think meepy said something about a Google forms and that not everything by 100% cleaned up internally yet.

edit:
yup I was right

There was no reason to be rude, that is a concern because for most people who are on here that is a concern because they are on here because they can’t access discord or the wix. Not saying you were trying to be rude but it came across that way.

Let’s not argue on here because this is fun and we would want to do more of these but if this causes a huge drama I can almost guarantee Team Gimkit won’t want to do it again.

Is it necessary to create a new map or we can use maps we had? Do you want the map to be made from scratch like in the original GameJam?

(If this question has already been asked, then I’m sorry, but I’m too lazy to read everything)

It would kind of be cheating, since you are only supposed to have two weeks

I mean, there isn’t a specific rule that specifically states that already made maps ar banned, but I think it’s generally suggested that you make another map.

There isn’t any feasible way to actually identify, unless you’re watching them make it through every step. Trust will have to do. Even if it isn’t great.
