What are channels, how do they work and what are they for?

I know this sounds like I don’t know anything, but I’m still getting into this and it’s been awhile since I saw the creative tutorial… Can anybody help me out?

It’s just wires, but faster and more memory cheap.
Like if you have a button send out a “123” channel when pressed, anything that receives the “123” channel will do something

not really, players will never see the wires
but that can make it laggy to build near them, very laggy

@123453 you can just edit your posts

Channels can actually do more than wires and they don’t make your map look terrible (Trust me, 100 wires don’t look good).

That’s so cool! Thanks for helping!

But there are exceptions. Wires are more flexible in terms of patching because it can affect multiple devices at once. For instance, a channel is sending something to a device but then a wire can also trigger another action from it.

hmmmm, true
I suppose it is easier to work with wires than channels

he said for patching

Your wrong on this one, channels can transmit on multiple channels like so:

GiveItem, Heal

Basically if you have a comma and a space a device can transmit on multiple channels.

Hmm thanks for telling me this! I didn’t know this existed!

How I love community arguments

Im not exactly sure what this means… can you explain?

uhhhhhh
NVM the multi channel things fixes it

Then. . .
Do you know why wires exist?
(neither do I)
@JustAToaster Also I just checked your theory and it doesn’t work. It just sets a character limit. When I attempt to add a new channel, it also doesn’t work.

they exist because it’s just easier to understand
connecting devices is INSANELY important for GimKit games, and if you don’t know channels, you’re cooked
at least I think that’s why

dang i’m useless and theorizing about wires

oh ok

um, yes

Wires are made for the younger audience because Gimkit is made for people at young as 6, (Hence why discovery is cough cough so terrible). Channels are usually much harder for younger people to understand because there isn’t really an explanation for them in the tutorial too.

Edit - Zappy_Zaptos why is your pfp non existent :sob:

Ahem your statement about adding a comma and a space for a channel doesn’t work.

I did some testing, it does work, maybe check if you have a spelling error or typed something wrong,

So does the channels already need to be made in another device?
Ok I see. So we were both wrong and right. Thanks for helping me understand this complex topic.

I made the channels in the button beforehand, Im also pretty sure this multi channel thing only works on transmitting devices (Like buttons, triggers, overlays)
