So if you run against a barrier when its closed, when it opens you get a short speed boost, or at least that’s what it looks like. Try it for yourself

I think the game is trying to get out as fast as possible, so when the barrier gets closed the game tries to stop that speed boost and does it in 0.5 seconds.
