Undertale-Style Attack Patterns Request | Read Original Post Before Responding

PhoenixWander help essay number 2 billion…

I’m actually making a game for public release for once. It uses an undertale style battle system, and I need attack patterns for it.
Attack patterns should use Lasers in succession, or zones, nothing else.
To be clear. I DO NOT want enemies, nor enemy stats.
I only want attack patterns.

This is a top down game.
If you’re trying to theme the attack, the theme is Ice or Crystals.
Please try to keep the patterns balanced. These are for normal enemies, not any bosses, and the intended difficulty of the game is quite low, as it is mainly story based.

Example Attack

Horizontal Lasers repeatedly activate, create a huge area of lasers that force the players to the bottom of the box. After a second, they disappear, and the reverse happens, forcing the player to the top of the box.

I will edit the answers to any questions here.

yes.

hotland enemies from undertale (by themself.)

Stuff like quick lightning coming down from the top of the box, or sideways moving ropes with a gap in them.

So you don’t want the enemies, but the enemies’ attacks?
And also could you give me an example attack so I know how powerful it should be?

Can’t access undertale wiki so mind elaborating on that? As for attacks…

Ice Laser
Fires a laser down the center of the map

Snow Squall
Spawns snow piles that slow down players when stepped on

Crystal Shower
Spawns sharp ice crystal that deal 5 damage each

That’s it for now ig

Undertale, you say?

Attack ideas:
Icicles that are blasted at the player horizontally, slowing down the player momentarily and dealing 2 damage per hit. (slowdown is for 2 seconds, and afterwards the player is faster for 1 second)

(I’ll add more ideas later, when I get home… Going offline to switch classes…)

Gonna take this and modify this.
It has to use lasers instead, so it’ll just be a slowness denoting laser that blasts from the side.

As well as that, I’ll do the damage values myself, since I’m not using UT hp.

I suppose I will joi- I mean help with the Underposting.

  • A wall of crystals that slowly descend from the top of the bullet box. Accompanied by some crystal lasers at odd angles, coming from the bottom of the screen.
  • Icicles at the top of the box that drip water, dealing damage.
  • A blizzard that covers the entire bullet box except for one randomly placed, telegraphed, circular area.
  • Crystals that come in from the sides of the bullet box and move horizontally across.

I have no idea how you would make most of these. Certainly not with lasers, for sure.

I can do this but it’s just a vertical or horizontal area instead.

I have a way to do this as well.

Updated this with an example attack.
Again, if you have questions, ask them.

Attack 1:
An fan-shaped area on a corner of the box(random) lights up briefly before damaging the area
Attack 2:
For some time, every like 1-2 seconds the area the player is in will light up before damaging
Attack 3: a crystal will appear in the middle before damaging the area around it, then crystalized branches will poke horizontal lines to the player

Again, I have a way to variant this into working.

I forgot I knew how to use zones so you can use those now.
