The Build-pleassian Guide to Barrier Art

People have been posting about barrier art how-to-make things and stuff, So here is my guide to Barrier Art!

Intro to Barriers

Barriers are multi-purpose devices used for doors, Blastball goals, and art-- which is what we’re talking about. They are customizable in shape, size and color. They can block you from going places or are just skylights for the crazy Mario Kart themed ‘Coconut Mall’. Did I mention the transparency range? It goes from invisible glass to big ol’ phat, and opaque, Joe Mama. We should thank Josh and his team for the amount of ACTUAL CODE into these. (Josh, if you’re reading, I’ll say that your barriers are kind of underrated.)

SO NOW YOU KNOW ABOUT BARRIERS. LET’S MOVE ON.

Focus Points

Normally barrier art looks 2D, right? SO THIS IS ONLY FOR 3D ART CREATORS. Focus Points are areas where you want attention. There can be only one of these. Colors IN and NEAR the Focus Point should be bright and saturated. The farther you go from the Focus Point, the duller and less saturated it gets (but only a little bit.) Focus points should also be closer to the center of the barrier art. So if you want people to see the back of a tanker truck, turn the art around so it shows the side and the back ONLY. The front should not be in the art.

There’s focus points for you. Did I mention turning stuff around and side and back only? That only means one thing: ANGLES. And no, not the angles in math, but angles in PERSPECTIVE.

Perspective

Not much to say here. Perspective is basically showing two or more sides of an object (max three). Barriers forming the Focus Point should be small, and barriers going away from it should get bigger. Small details, if you want them, should be small, no duh.

There are other elements too, like layering. Layering can be simple but VERY tedious.

Layering

It’s just a bunch arrows, but layering is crucial. Borders of barrier art should be on top and things inside the borders should be below the borders. Small details are above general, bare areas. The bare areas are at the bottom.

That is my guide so far. Ask me to change stuff if anything’s wrong, or to add stuff if I left something out.

Nice guide!

Is the poll for difficulty or quality?

Both, so the rating might not reach 10

I’m sure it will help people who want to use barriers!

This is only Barrier Art, though

You can also put some pictures in your guides to improve them

yeah but it gives tips on how to layer them an intro to barriers that could help!
9/10 could use a few pictures

This will take time and I’m kind of tired now that I did a huge guide and a million other excuses…

Should I be a thumbnail artist in my free time?

are you a good artist?

Hand drawn? Not much (mostly due to my poor lighting skills and not a lot of art stuff to work with)
With computers? Between good and great

I’ll never compare to Void fluffy though

ok then YUS
try ur hand at it!

Man, I got some good support here

Kind of makes me miss the old forums where there was conflict (But only kind of.)

You should stick to what you’re good at, and if that’s photoshop, then do that.

This a great guide! Like how suki-moon said, a few pictures could make it more interesting or whatever but keep doing the amazing work you’re doing now!

Thank you, honestly forgot about this guide…
Thanks for bumping! (I get my likes back in about 40 min.)
