The Ascension Thread (ideas, thumbnails, help, etc)

I put this in art, don’t know which would fit it best (Help maybe?), but I figured this would do. No idea what tags to put.

Anyways,

Ascension is a map I am currently working on (just finished my TDM map), and for a large part it is essentially a difficulty chart (similar to Don’t Look Down), for there are no checkpoints and it scales in difficulty. There are puzzles throughout, and the theme stays relatively the same. I have created this topic as a way to open discussion for the thread. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I would love some new ideas, and I will always welcome thumbnails.

Map is largely unfinished, and I am essentially “sketching out” ideas and stuff. It’s bland at the moment, but I plan for it to have the monochromatic color scheme.

Ask any questions, give any ideas, draw any art, etc.

Some screenshots

It was requested for me to put the game in a format for thumbnailers, so here:

Stuff

Name of Game : Ascension
Summary of Game : Upon awaking in a strange world that seems to be deserted, you find the only way you can go is to ascend upwards into what you can only hope is the sky. Along the way, your wits will be tested, as well as your intelligence and your agility.
Setting : The Pit. Use screenshots for reference if you must.
What gims : Any, only 1 though.
What are the characters doing : You may have them doing anything related to the game, in the game. Whether it be like jumping, solving a puzzle, etc.
Author of game : The Toll

Some ideas:
(Note: For the screenshots, you should blur out the code just in case you get flagged for it)

  • At the near end, add some snow piles to stimulate cold. Make the last or second to last summit have a blizzard that slowly consumes the surroundings. The player has to complete the summit before they succumb to frostbite. Add a knockout message that says {name} succumbed to frostbite
  • Add a cave summit. : D (I just love platformer caves, they have so much potential!) In the cave have some places that have caved-in and plant lasers.
  • Add a floating city summit with catwalk terrain and barrier art buildings. This summit has some lasers and waterfalls made of nuclear waste. Add teleporters that don’t have any settings. These teleporters are just for decoration. Have billboards to look like a city. (Also, do you have the season ticket? I have more ideas regarding season ticket stuff)

I agree, caves are cool in Gimkit, they can be bases, hideouts and so many other ideas

Don’t really care for the gims, I’d prefer only one though.

Background could be whatever, I’ll post more screenshots as I go.

One standing on one of the pillars and staring down while like shivering or something could be cool.

Up to you though.

alr ima start makeing it after this thumbnail im working on rn :slightly_smiling_face:
thanks for the more info

Hey @TheToll, do you have the season ticket? I have some ideas regarding season ticket props. Also, more ideas:

  • An abandoned mining camp deep in a cave. The player can rest up and explore the camo for a little while before setting out again.
  • Before the player exits the cave summit, they have to parkour over à dangerous pit of bubbling lava, lava geysers, and flaming monsters (sentries)
  • Have a forest summit with vines to cling on, dangerous plants and animals, also an abandoned camp deep in the woods.
  • [Warning: requires season ticket!] add a desert summit with a ruined town with ruins props and rusty generators, electric posts, and other Rusty or d!rty props.
  • Add your profile picture as a boss fight! Summon tentacles, monsters, and a gigantic shadeborn Gim as the boss
  • Spooky abandoned lab! Infected props, evil plant gims, and dangerous pools of acid

I’m too broke for season ticket lol, I should be fine without it though. Anyways, I’ll regard your first post here as well.

I’ll think about the frostbite mechanic, that actually would be very cool. Definitely doing a cave section, though the game itself is not going to be a flat out rip off of Dont Look Down, for there isn’t really going to be “summits”. I could do an abandoned city. I could use the abaonded camp to hide Easter eggs, this gave me some ideas for stuff later. I don’t plan to use sentries.

Regarding my PFP as a bossfight, I doubt winning would be possible for a gimkit character. After all, my PFP is V1 from Ultrakill. (insert that one gif of him slam dunking Maurice in 1-1)

Now you’re just glazing yourself. More ideas!

  • have an underwater section in a cave where you move slower, there’s poisonous seaweed, and scraps of metal to collect and craft gadgets like zappers or blasters

I aint glazing me, I’m glazing V1. He just gotta +parry, +ricoshet and maybe +disrespect and you are done for.

For the underwater section, I could try to halve the gravity too.

can we some pictures?

There are 2 under “Some screenshots”

here what ive got so far

what else do you want me to add?
sorry the gim looks like an jelly bean

Well, the background would be black (as it is in the screenshots) and the platform would be a lighter gray (ditto).

Perhaps staring down into an abyss? It’s always nice to see another kleki user.

so black backgound
and lighter gary tower got it

is this better?

or no
it was kinda hard to make him stare into the void
i had to redo the eyes like 6 times
is red or white fine for the title or an grey or something like that

is this good

ive tired
hope you like it tell me if i need to add anything
i didnt really know what to do with this thumbnail really uh
