Nobody should edit this apart from me and other TL4s and above. If you do edit it without permission I will be notified. So don’t!
In the past 20 days, over 10 Bugs topics have been created and they have pretty much all been saying one of these three things:
-
My map is disappearing, only shadows are left and I can’t move or see my Gim. This is due to Gimkit having to load to much stuff at once, better performance can be achieved by staying on the default zoom and removing shadows on your props. This bug occurs in platformer and top-down. Fixed.

I am getting error screens whilst attempting to edit things in my map or play my map.
-
I can’t find Gimkit creative.
The advice for the first two of these is to email hello@gimkit.com and explain your bug so they can fix it. For the third one:
-
If you are on a student account creative is a white button in the top right of the Home Screen.
-
If you are on an educator account then you have to click the profile button in the top right which then comes with a dropdown which has Creative embedded in it.
Other bugs and their explanations.
-
Slow loading: This is due to Gimkit having to load to much stuff at once, better performance can be achieved by staying on the default zoom and removing shadows on your props.
-
Entering a different prop/device setting which is not the one you clicked on. This is one is predominantly on iPad and usually occurs when you have entered a devices/props settings and then left without editing anything. Gimkit thinks that you wanted to edit that and then accidentally left its settings. Therefore, it reopens for you when you next click on the screen. To stop this happening just enter a channels editor or any other space you can input text and then leave it again and then it should stop.
-
A purple screen when trying to load your map or one on discovery which won’t go away. Unfortunately, for this one you have to log out your account on most occasions and then log back in again before trying again else it won’t work.
-
There are also potential hardware issues relating to Gimkit concerning the devices you are using. The questioner interface, popups and game overlays have been triggering white screens to pop up and gimkit error screens. These have predominantly been found to occur on iPads not computers.
Any other bugs that have not been mentioned here should have new topics that I will read and update this. For any other bugs please notify the community and contact hello@gimkit.com. Please do not create more topics about the mentioned bugs as Team Gimkit have already been notified and it is a waste of time for the TL4s that will have to close them when they shouldn’t have been made in the first place. There have been too many duplicate topics already and I have posted this one to try and stop any future ones.
Thanks!

Please can y’all not reply to this I said this earlier and I shouldn’t need to reiterate it this soon. Just like the post. This topic should be informational only. No replies at all please. They will be flagged and most likely removed anyway. Do not reply after this post unless it is absolutely necessary. If it is deemed unnecessary then it will be flagged and removed.
If people ask silly questions like @parkthecatfamily please just flag them and move on. Do not reply to them.

For the first issue (the one with shadows), I’m fairly certain it’s caused by GKC having to load too many things at once right away. Setting the camera setting to default lets me teleport around the gk8 map with no issue, but doing the same thing at max zoom out causes the bug on the first teleport.

Gimkit is doing their job, and they take a break over the summer and don’t update the website really unless it’s an emergency and they can’t earn revenue.

Don’t you think 29 times is a bit excessive?
It’s not because of the memory, it’s how many visible devices are trying to load in at once. All devices are offloaded not on your screen. (Like clicclac suggested, you can zoom in your camera for better performance.)

Just for the record, anyone repeatedly emailing hello@gimkit.com about the same thing will be asked to stop, probably blocked, and potentially banned from Gimkit. Just something to keep in mind.
Please only ever report an issue once. Even if I don’t respond to everything, I do investigate everything. The Shadow Bug has consumed a lot of my time since it was released. It should be fixed soon, at which point I’ll update everyone.

Also, for what it’s worth, the solution to the “an error occured” screens is -more often than not- a hard refresh and failing that, clearing site data. Trust me, I know what a drag is to be told something is a caching issue, but alas that is sometimes the only way forward and I’m going to ask you to do it anyhow.
Failing that, please do email me the screenshot and (this is important) let me know what you were doing that threw the error!
If it was just a one time thing you saw, chances are there isn’t much we can do. Wires crossed somewhere and they won’t again. But if it’s something that you can get to happen repeatedly, let me know what caused it!!!
A helpful tip for ALL emails you write to companies, but particularly if you think you’re reporting a bug: I can’t report it if I can’t replicate it.
When I write up a bug for Josh and Jakub, I have specific steps to replicate, information about the console logs, extensions, etc., as well as information about where I’ve tested it (which browsers, devices, and so on).
You don’t have to provide all that. But if you want to make a technical support agent’s day include detailed steps about how you got to the error. Bonus points for including your browser and device type. You’ll be their favorite email of the day and you’re much more likely to get a quick fix!
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

One final thing and then I’ll stop, I swear.
We technically only support ipads and mobile devices for playing games. Not Creative. Not even the gimkit dashboard/kit creation.
This doesn’t mean it won’t work on mobile devices. It doesn’t even mean we won’t fix things we find. It just means it won’t be a priority.
There are a couple of known issues about playing games on ipads specifically, that are related to certain ios versions. So if you’re having trouble a good first step is to make sure you’re updated to the most recent version. If you’re still having trouble after that please email me at hello@gimkit.com with your ipad version and ios version. I can walk you through checking a few accessibility options that can cause issues, and it will also help me track issues down!

I just wanted to let everyone know that we finally identified the call that was causing the shadow bug issue.
We pushed a fix last week and you shouldn’t see that anymore.
Have a great week!
