Making Visual Novel/Dating Sim, Help Wanted!

Attempting to make something inspired by Doki Doki Literature Club, and would love some helping hands from some fellow DDLC fans. Anyone interested?

I just got the craziest deja Vu from this post

anyways, are you sure your game will be ok for kingergarteners?

Yeah, not leaning into the horror too much, it’ll have more of an uncanny vibe than anything

I think they mean the dating sim part. It would be pretty hard to keep that appropriate.

I know you haven’t yet, but don’t post jO1n codes on the Forums. Please post the code on the wixsite. People that are willing to help can j0in you from there.

It stayed unblocked for a solid 10 seconds. I had enough time to read the first line, though, and it’s exactly what @ChuggingMonsters is looking for. It can be way more functional than if you made it in Gimkit Creative AND it would break any of the Forum and Gimkit rules since it won’t be on Gimkit at all.

agony

How can you make this appropriate for children and make it the stay the same game?

Exactly.

I mean, you could try a making friends sim I guess, but I’m not sure anyone would play that.

I mean if you did include a dating aspect, the rules get really fuzzy
at one point, children can become addicted and lean into bad habits of dating and multiple problems

if you still want to make the game I recommend just using and learning RenPy and putting it up on i.ch io (why is that word banned-) or if you have the money, on Steam

here’s RenPy: https://www.renpy.org/

Heya!
While you wouldn’t be able to publish something themed around dating or the horror aspects of DDLC, you can certainly attempt to create them without publishing it. You could also just make a visual novel without any of the above.

I’ve recently been trying to build my own visual novel engine in python, and I’d love to help see it done in GKC. I’ll see if I can find the time to experiment.

I am confused and trying not to be off topic (please kindly warn me if I am being off topic.) Is dating games not allowed to be published because of gimkit LITTERALLY BEING A SCHOOL GAME so they would not be allowed to post it? (PLEASE WARN ME IF I AM BEING OFF TOPIC.)

Yeah I agree a lot of the people playing are kids and this just seems kinda inappropriate. maybe you should try something different?

oi.

You’re all good.

I don’t believe it’s explicitly in the rules, but a dating sim just isn’t super appropriate for kids. I believe the main rule regarding content restrictions on GKC games is that an elementary schooler should be able to play it without issue, and a dating sim would constitute problems for that age demographic.

Like I said, they can either remove the dating sim elements or they can just make the game without publishing it.

Is dating even allowed on all Gimkit platforms???

I’m guessing not welp that answer that question

No, its not. not for any kids game at all, like Roblox. Even if people do it, that’s breaking the rules.

Yeah also horror might not be…the best KIDS SCHOOL game but idk, its not as bad as the dating part but still maybe don’t make it like HORROR BLOOD GORE

Hey @CommanderGOAT i need your help with this. Is this allowed

There are multiple posts on here that say it wouldn’t be suitable for kids, which are basically 90%-95% of Gimkit players.

horror is kinda hard to make with the tools given to you… I’ve tried.

I mean technically romance itself is a safe topic for children just not when it gets kissy kissy and all that stuff after or during the birbs and beehives talk is when I think it gets past the point of appropriate. my best suggestion is just to word your stuff carefully.
also I had (keyword had) some point and click prototype systems in some of my old maps they don’t work well but perhaps it’ll help a bit if I can figure those out again
