Making subnautica vehicles

So, as some of you know, I’m making a subnautica game. But I can’t figure out how I’d make any of the vehicles. That’s why I need help with the mechanics and barrier art for these four things:

P.R.A.W.N suit

Unknown Worlds / Subnautica Prawn Update Released

an exosuit used to explore the seafloor as well as land. has a crush depth of 900meters below sea level, but that can be modified via upgrade modules. the following upgrades you can do on it are:

  • Increasing the size of a storage locker
  • Increasing the crush depth to 1700 meters
  • Changing the arms to a grappling arm, torpedo launcher (gas torpedo or teleporting torpedo) drill arm and magnet g-u-n arm
  • Increasing the size of the fuel tank so it can jump higher
I’m cutting a few other upgrades, since gimkit can only take you so far.

Seamoth

A small, one person submarine. Upgrades are:

  • Installing a storage locker
  • Increasing the crush depth (200 meters) to 900
  • adding a torpedo launcher
  • adding a defense system, which sends out a shockwave that causes predators to stop attacking for a few seconds
Instead of letting you to freely roam around, it will offer you a menu as to where you ant to take it, as long as it is within its crush depth. This will also be the same for the next vehicle, the

Cyclops

A large 3 person submersible that you can walk around in, and build a base inside of. you can dock a prawn or seamoth inside of it, and it has a large storage area. I can’t show you a pick of the inside (since I can’t find any lol) so you might need to watch a tour video. Anyways, upgraaaaaades:

  • Maximizing crush depth to 1700 meters
  • generating a protective force field around it
  • making the engine more efficient so it doesn’t catch fire
  • Fire suppression module to handle fires
Thanks, and If you guys have any more questions, please let me know! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

It’s 9:50 AM ya’ll are gonna need to put up with my awful spelling

Yes I wake up past 10 lol

It will be hard for us to explain seeing as most of this is up to you with barrier art.

Although you could use some space props to help!

I think I’m gonna (try) to focus on these

P.S. you put an a instead of an s in mechanics.

I need barrier art ideas for the prawn and seamoth. It’s a platformer btw

also all the device slop for everything

@Zappy_Zaptos that’s great but you can’t ask to help with maps. Just ping me in the PadIet instead

I can just make the art for u cuz we both in padlet
Though you’ll have to tell me around how much memory u ok with me spending

How intricate do you want your storage systems? All of the buildable vehicles, in addition to the lifepod and habitat have the capacity to store items. No matter what you do, any storage system will have to use some amount of memory for each item in your game, and that goes up the more capability you add.

For example, if you only want the option to store a certain item to show up if you already have that item, you’ll need atleast a checker for every single item in your game.
I can try to make a fairly memory efficient storage system, but having multiple places where you can store things that all hold different items will be pretty difficult.

gee reapera

you be making a ton of post-os

for a force shield, invis the barrier by making the transparency 0.1

Another issue: building anything that moves in Gimkit is a huge pain. I doubt you’ll be able to get a seamoth to have more than 1 frame every 100 meters without running out of memory, let alone a cyclops.

My idea for the seamoth/cyclops is for them both to open a popup when you enter them, offering a few destinations that you can quick travel to, depending on crush depth. I’m still a bit lost with the P.R.A.W.N, though

Just lost my fully upgraded prawn last week TvT

Ok, That makes sense.
As for the PRAWN, I think the most realistic option is to just represent the P.R.A.W.N itself as a flag and letting the player move freely, maybe changing their move speed depending on how fast you want the exosuit to be.
The only problem is that a flag dropped on the ground returns to base after 999 seconds when you set it to max, and you can’t really attach any kind of art to the flag.

Sadly, flags aren’t in platformer. I could just give it the same mechanics as a seamoth, but it can warp to material lodes once the drill arm is attached. I’m not that good with devices, so IDK how to make that possible

What??? Why I oughta march over to Gimkit HQ and give 'em a piece of my mind.

Yeah, just having the prawn behave like the seamoth is probably your best bet. I think it’d be better if the drillable nodes were just placed next to the normal warp points, so you don’t have to make any extra prawns.
