How come these extremely low effort games that have “down look down” in the title that have default text and object spam get more views than mine? Like seriously, I’m currently making a game that I am quite proud of on Gimkit and some guy makes “Don’t look down impossible” and it hits trending in 3 minutes? This is so confusing.
It’s probably clickbait. Just ignore it and focus on making your game the best it can be.
I’ll take your advice, thanks
Most games are posted by kids. Eyes are naturally attracted to flashy things, so the meme thumbnails are cool. DLDs are also new, so they are cool too. It will calm down in a little bit (probably).
Yeah, but they’re against the publishing rules.
Sadly, that doesn’t stop people from using them. The human brain is hardwired to look at bright, colorful things.
This is due to the fact that when people search for maps they just search relevant topics. When someone wants to play a platforming game for instance they might look up platformer, don’t look down, jump, or parkour. In the phrase “Don’t look down impossible” the person in question is trying to find a hard (impossible), platformer (don’t look down). Also, new maps get trending quicker because they appear in the new releases So, having a cool thumbnail while in the new releases can get it trending quickly.
I think otherwise. It’s mostly luck when a map gets trending. There really isn’t a tactic to making a popular game.
Also dependency on luck.
A lot of the maps that are on trending don’t have catchy thumbnails whatsover, most are just screenshots of their map or a meme/images from other game companies, which are against the rules. A lot of them are also low-effort maps, which is quite unfair to the ones that users actually put some effort into making.
Before you ask why you have so little plays, you have to first ask who gives you plays. I’m pretty sure that most people playing gimkit are under 10 years, so I wouldn’t take the number of plays as a good indicator of the quality of your map.
