I am going to REGRET this so badly…
So I am trying to write an AU about one of my OCs, Monochrome. Uhm.
The basic thing is he stays in the garden to too long and now he’s covered in flowers. Uh. And those flowers are the kind that make people fall asleep around him (sad trombone). And then they have good dreams. And he has to wake them. Um. Yeah. Where can I take this? RPG? My brain is soaked in ‘no ideas.’
…please try not to chat, and also no AI. make your ideas long and descriptive.

Yes, for maybe a game or some other sorts. Sorry for not clarifying that.

Moonflower Daydream sounds really deep, and interesting. I guess I’m also braindead with ideas right now, but I have a thought regarding this:
This game can go in multiple directions, but personally I see two main paths: an RPG or an interactive narrative. By interactive narrative, I mean a story-driven experience where the reader isn’t the main character, but rather observes the storyline unfold through numerous cutscenes. It would be a cinematic, message-driven narrative with a strong focus on storytelling and visuals :0
If you want to take the RPG path, here are some points to consider:
-
Character stats: What attributes would Monochrome have? And how should this influence how Monochrome interacts with the sleeping characters
-
Combat: Instead of the regular, same old same old, meh, bleh combat, maybe Monochrome’s battles involve navigating the dreamscapes of sleeping characters…?
-
: Monochrome could collect different types of flowers, each having different effects on the sleeping characters.
-
Dream fragments: Not sure about this one, but it sounds kinda cool :>
Sorry if this isn’t very helpful :< but I hope it’s enough to get some ideas started

@ShadowDragon44, those dream fragments could be to help wake Monochrome from the dream. Or they’re currency. Anyway, ideas!
- me is lazy right now. Waiting for brain to start braining. I’ll add later
Expansion on @ShadowDragon44 ‘s ideas
After the protagonist falls asleep, they get connected to the astral plane, where they can feel other asleep characters, the main character can free other people from the plane by solving their regrets(doing a quest) or solving their nightmare (boss fight), after they are freed, they can give you flowers, some of them give you special abilities to navigate the map, some others about combat i’ll explain later
Combat system: the nightmares(bosses) can be damaged/affected by combat flowers, (like for instance some may trap bosses in barriers to prevent them from firing), these are activated by overlays(player can only equip 4 of them due to this), the player has one flower on default(does not take up overlays), when bosses are weakened, using this flower(button near the boss) will tp the player into an arena with the core of the boss, defeating it will remove boss hp by 1
Bosses will expose their chains(a few sentries) after a series of attacks for a few seconds, then disappears(the broken chains dont recover until boss core defeated), and boss attacks again, when all chains are broken, the boss will be weakened
Dream fragments: currency, 100 light fragments=1 medium fragment, 100 med=1heavy
Lore: you are actually dead after a while in the astral plane, but the unique talent of exposing the core of things helped him survive as a soul in the astral plane, and the final boss wants the main character to follow rules and go into the spirit cycle, but the main character wants to save his sick friend

Monochrome’s Descent Into Madness
Once a resident of the Emberwall Kingdom, a humble gardener to the castle’s courtyards, he found a strange and mystical tree tucked into a forgotten corner behind the ruins of the chambers of King Gimrick III. Though initially he intended to report this discovery to his lord, he found himself strangely…sleepy. They fell to the ground beneath the blossoming tree, their last glimpse of the world around them being the blue petals drifting down from the canopy. Their sleep was a turbulent jumble of images, mixtures of memories and of sights they had never before seen. And within them all a figure remains constant, an entity identifying itself only as The Duality. You wake from what felt like only a short sleep to find yourself covered in petals, and see the area around you in a state of ruin. It seems as if centuries have passed, and that you might have slept for an eternity had your body not bonded and developed defenses against this strange tree. You see a group of travellers in the distance and decide to approach them, seeking information on what happened during your sleep. However, they drop to the ground asleep once you get near them, and it is only then you realize the curse this tree has left you with. For while you now may age exponentially slower, you can no longer interact with others, sentencing you to a lonely and nomadic lifestyle.

Do you want lore/story for the actual gameplay, or just the general background I already wrote?
Story. I figured out the lore behind this AU.
Ok, got it.
LORR- oh wait I mean ¨Story¨
Monochrome wakes to find themselves under a strange blue tree in ruins with little memory of how they got there or what they dreamt. As they wander the ruins of their old home, they get strange flashes of visions, in which they are thrown into a dreamscape and tested through trials and combat by an entity calling itself ¨Duality¨.
In between these flashes, you encounter refugees and travellers hiding in the ruins, but they fall asleep when you approach them. As you stumble through the rubble, you remember what caused your sleep…and what occured in it. You struck a deal with the Duality that in exchange for your freedom from the trance and a longer life, you would help it spread its dominion across the kingdom. Too late, you turn to see those you passed have transformed into plant like…creatures, only vaguely resembling Gims. Horrified by your actions, you attempt to return to and cut down the tree by using an axe you found in the rubble, and you fight your way through those you transformed, anguish filling you with each innocent soul you cut down. Yet when you arrive, you see IT, the Duality, emerging through a rift in the tre, maniacally monologuing about bringing balance to the world by purging it of Gims. It then uses a gadget of quantum origin to attempt to subdue you, and you fight. It’s attacks include a black and white blinding haze, the summoning of Evil Plants, and(if released) Damagers. It is immortal, and so you must cut down the tree, the source of its power by damaging it enough to remove its shield from the tree.
Good Ending
You fend off Duality long enough to reach the tree and cut it down, sealing the rift and causing Duality to fade away before your eyes. Around you, you watch as the plant like beasts fade off to reveal the bodies of the innocent, oofed because of you.
Bad Ending
The Duality knocks you out and reasserts control over you, using you to spread its control over Emberwall. If player is knocked out, they should be given 60 seconds to escape a room, and if they fail, this ending triggers. 10 seconds less time with each knockout.

gang I need to read sorry
..Thats basically what i said?…
AHHHH
I wasn’t reading the posts I’m so sorry
Well . . since you want lore, perhaps a backstory could help, maybe even an objective for the game, like . .“Why is he staying in the garden for too long in the first place?” and “How is he covered in flowers and how come he can’t seem to get them off?” And maybe you have to find out why and perhaps even save him.
Sounds like something that could work for a game that generally focuses on adventure.
