Lore

Eight years prior to 2026. A project had went wrong at the lab of Hollowspire. The lab had created a dangerous plague that the people were not aware of. You just so happened to be there that night. And here’s what happened.
The night of the Voidal Plague.
Your friend Gerg comes up to you.
“Hey man you ever wondered what happens at the lab at night.”
“No, not really.”
“Wanna check it out?”
“No, not really.”
“Great! I’'ll see you there!” Gerg runs off. You’ve been friends with him since elementary. He is your best friend. Back then he got to experience what it would be like to be a scientist. Ever since you knew that he wanted to be a scientist for the Queen and King. He most likely wants to go there so he can learn more about science You thought as you lay in bed. Of course he was your best friend and you wouldn’t let him do this by himself. I guess I should meet him there You get up and put on a hoodie, your black hoodie because Incase there were cameras you didn’t want to get caught.
You arrive at the lab an hour later. You look at the lab, the big, metallic fence standing in your way. The fence was going to be a problem you didn’t bring fence cutters.
“Over here.” Greg whispers to you. You see he is cutting the fence.
“Where did you get those!?” You say hoarsely.
“Don’t worry bro, I got these for free.”
You honestly didn’t feel like arguing with him. You watched as he cut the fence, and notice the area around you. The landscape seems dry, almost empty of life. The air heavy, with anguish. Normally you knew this place to have at least two workers, but tonight you realized the place had no cars in the lot. That was your first sign if only you knew what was to come. By now Gerg had cut the fence and slid through. You slid in right behind him. Gerg approaches the building. You see that the lights in the building were flickering, like all of them. By this point you realize you had no way in the building. You look at Gerg who had found a window. He climbed up, entering the building. You climb up behind him.
“Come on bro time doesn’t waste itself.”
You follow behind him. The room you climbed into was dark. The light above flickering like it was damaged. You look around to see chemicals spilt on the floor. Gerg just kept walking. You just questioned why chemicals were on the floor. You aced in science though you really had no interest. You look forward and Gerg was gone.
“Gerg? Gerg!?”
You decided that you’ll meet up with him later. You walk in the hall and notice the smell in the air, it smelt of rotten meat. A truly regregenating smell. You walk forward to notice some one down the hall. It did not look like Gerg but of course you could barely see. It just didn’t look human. You started at it before running down the hall in the other direction. You got far away, when a hand pulled you in a room and cupped your mouth.
“Shh. I don’t know what’s going on but we need to leave.”
He spoke really quiet like it was a matter of Life or d3ath. Looking back on it, it might as well been.
“What do you mean?” He points behind him and you see people on the floor. They were not moving, clearly not alive anymore. You had the urge to scream but you knew it wasn’t a good idea.
“The door is just ahead lets make a run.”
You bust the room open and run towards the door. As you do you notice other things, none of them human. You kept running scared for your life as you make it out the door. Gerg closes the door.
“Lets go home.”
The year is now 2026. As you lay in bed recalling that day. You knew never to tell anyone to not create panic but now its to late. The Queen Nyxoria and King Xal’thor, had the only way to end this. You realized you were the only one that could do this. You write a letter detailed with your journey
“I’m off to fight the Voidal Plague. I can cure the, Voidbornes and Neverbeasts, and even the Faceless Ones. The Queen and King hold the key I may not be back. I will go to the lab and I will find them. Please remember me if this is it, I love you man.”
With that you head off, knowing this could be the end.
And this is where your journey begins.

I realize there is so much more I could add but that would require a lot more time. And I could go on forever. This is the shorten version. I hope you enjoy

The Perilous Void: An Embrace of Futility

You are born into a vessel crafted by the factions warring over the dying husk that was Hollowspire, a Shadowspawn bound in servitude to the faction’s leaders, subservient and unwavering in your loyalty, your mind enveloped by the faint memories of past Vessels, their journeys, missions… and demise. Depending on the faction you chose in the Ethereal Plane, you are bound either to Oblivara, those who seek to obliterate the void regardless of the cost, or Evernight, who desire to bend its powers to their will so as to shape the world in their image. The crumbling cobbled streets of the kingdom loom beyond the two encampments, the vacant central road stretching in its decayed form to the Shadeharte, a malevolent fortress inhabited by Embodiment of Void, a manifestation of its consciousness that shifts gender and abilities on a whim, seeking only to spread and consume everything in its path. Long held at bay by the old mage caste of Hollowspire, Lord Gimrick IV sought to bend its will to his own as a source of power, to be used to conquer neighboring lands to diffuse the kingdom’s rising overpopulation crisis, which fathered a rise in drought and famine. Of course, such ancient forces as darkness incarnate can never truly be controlled, and while Gimrick did indeed conquer vast swathes of territory, it was only due to the alignment of his hunger for resources being aligned with the same ravenously insatiable urge seated primally within the depths of the void’s ethereal mind. What victory Gimkind experienced was short lived, for the Void soon enveloped its host, warping its castle into the dark citadel of Shadeharte, from which poured forth amalgamations of flesh and shadow, whose sole focus was the sadistic consumption of all life. The beasts were imbued by dark magic by the mage caste, stripped of memory and identity and distorted into floating husks emitting a dark purple aura that brought sickness to those who merely stood near them, their blank visage earning them the title of the Faceless Ones. Roaming the lower levels of Shadeharte, they could not survive in daylight, and thus rarely emerged from their fortress, though they developed a sort of fog that coated the land immediately beyond the main gate. No, they left the work of spreading the tide of Unceasing Void to the Neverbeasts, crude constructs of various lifeforms, both plant and animal, tainted by darkness with their hides oozing blackened sap and blood, their unhingable jaws swallowing whole Gims unlucky enough to be caught unawares. With every soul they consumed, void would sprout from the site of its demise, spreading its influence throughout the towns and woods of the kingdom. Some might consider the fate of those who were consumed by the Neverbeasts enviable however, as those who were felled by its claws, or merely entered a region in which the spores of the Unceasing Void were present fell to the ground where they stood, their innards poisoned by the cancerous spread of the void through their cells. Even those few mages that make up Oblivara and Evernight today feel fright passing through the roads, for the Void may possess the desiccated corpses of its victims to pursue those still uninfected, earning these perversions of the cycle of life the moniker Voidborns. Less than a dozen survivors still persist within the kingdom, mages lucky enough to be away from the capital when Shadeharte rose, and who used their magicks to halt the spread of the Void to their bodies. Fearful of endangering themselves, they desecrate the skeletons of rural crypts to form Vessels, necromantic beings of basic sentience bound to the will of those who raised them with only enough free will to make basic survival choices. Armed with Wooden Wands and basic nature spells, they are sent by mages into the Shadeharte in what has become a quest of futility stretching over the past 8 years. To the mages themselves, you appear no different than the rest of the servants they have cast into oblivion, yet unique to you lies dormant magick, for the bones used in your construction were those of an ancient mage, one who experimented with dark magicks, giving you a resistance to the spells which shall be used on you. Though resistance only means you aren’t decimated in one blow, it will have to do. You may have the best chance of defeating the Embodiment of Void, be it in the form Xal’thor the Brutal, or Nyxoria the Poisoner.

Endings:
Oblivara
You defeat the Embodiment of Void and access the Darkwell, a chamber leading to the depths of the kingdom, unlocked by inserting the Voideheart gained from its defeat into a darksteel socket to power the gate. Descending into the Abyss, you cast yourself into the physical void, triggering a self destruct sequence imbued in you by the mages, which will release a burning light into the Void, cleansing the kingdom of its presence and giving the mages time to restore the binding seals Lord Gimrick deactivated. You of course meet your demise, and all traces of Void dissolve within the kingdom, a black sludge oozing out of the matter it possessed and seeping to deep within the earth. The land is barren, the structures in a state of severe disrepair and collapse, yet there is hope for the future as new Gims begin to resettle the kingdom alongside the newly formed Mage Council. And as always, the Void looms beneath the seals, whispering promises of power to any foolish enough to heed its call.

Evernight
Bringing the Voideheart to the mages of Evernight, you bear silent witness as they slice it into pieces and consume it. Immediately, its dark power begins to surge and pulse through their veins, screechs of tormented agony emerging from their lips in the brief seconds before their lungs disintegrate. When the transformation is complete, you backpedal futilely as their forms combine to reform the Embodiment of Void, their heads emblazoned with unnaturally pointed smiles, bottomless black eyes peering into your shell as a cascade of shadow envelops you, the pressure cracking the bones of your Vessel into a fine white powder, a menacing cackle echoing through your mind being the last thing you think of before you cease to exist, for their is no taming chaos.

@TheCatIsCrazy Let me know if you want stat blocks and/or individual lore for the final boss types.

stat blocks and individual lore?

of course!

also if you can based on the lore maybe abilities for the Embodiment of Void?

i was reading it when you made that edit

yeah i noticed

Embodiment of Void is sort of an overarching category to explain the shifting appearance of Xal’thor and Nyxoria, not a separate boss.

Note: For optimal experience of the Vessel’s agony, players should either be forced into, or given the choice to be in hardcore.

Xal’thor The Brutal

Lore: The unveiling of Void’s true power, it assails the Vessel with a focus on sheer force and overwhelming power that while hard to dodge, leave it vulnerable to counterattacks should the Vessel be paying attention.

Stats:

Health: 7500 (More health due to its focus on raw strength versus subtle power)

Shield: 2500

Passive Ability: Void’s Vengeance
Constant 2x damage, 50% chance to reduce Player speed to .5x every 30 seconds.

Attack 1: Primal Fury (80 damage)
Unleash a shockwave of jet black void energy, avoidable by hiding behind pillars, yet destroys 1 of the 8 pillars with each instance of the attack, so eventually you will run out of places to hide. Not quite an instant elimination, but very close. Occurs every 2 minutes.

Attack 2: Horde Mind (Variable Damage)
Summon 4 Voidborne, who have 2x damage, after 30 seconds they disappear, but for each the player doesn’t eliminate, take 10 damage. Has a 30% chance to occur every 90 seconds.

Note: Nyxoria is recommended as the boss for a harder difficulty.
A Difficulty system (IMO) would always put players on hardcore, but with changes to enemy type, frequency, and damage output. Ex:

Shade (Easy): 50% less Faceless One spawns, Xal’thor, enemy damage reduced by 50%

Shadow(Default): Xal’thor, base enemy spawn rate and stats

Void(Hard): Nyxoria, 50 % more damage, Voidborne spawns have a 30% chance to be replaced by Neverbeasts

Abyssal (Insane): Nyxoria, 100% more damage, all Voidborne replaced by Neverbeasts, Venom of the Void is active through the whole run, only reversed by rare Starflowers found in randomized locations.

Nyxoria The Poisoner

Lore: The patient, corrupting aspect of Void, who damages the Vessel from its mere presence, its attacks measured and precise, focused not on immediate elimination, but rather secure in the knowledge it shall always outlast those who oppose it.

Stats:

Health: 5000

Shield: 2500 (Shield is constant due to the Void’s natural arcane resistance to magic)

Passive Ability: Venom Of The Void
The chamber is coated in black ichor, slowing Player to .75x speed, and dealing 1 damage every 2 seconds, then every 1 second after 120 seconds.

Attack 1: Hallucinatory Havoc
Non-collision barriers of various opacities of black flash over the arena for 30 seconds, and Faceless Ones appear where the pillars were for 5 seconds at random intervals during this time, cooldown of 180 seconds.

Attack 2: Shadow Stasis
Will summon 2 to 4 Cocoons on pillars guarded by 1 Voidborne per, an additional Cocoon being added with each iteration of the attack, Nyxoria is unattackable during this time and will heal for 100 health if the Cocoons aren’t destroyed in 90 seconds. Cooldown of 180 seconds.

@TheCatIsCrazy Is this sufficient?

great!

my only qualm:

I kinda have the guys as barrier art instead of sentries, because of a turn-based system

@King_Thunder_Alt1 how would i make these as the only attacks they use? I’m making a DnD turn-based attack system, so there’s no sentries

Ok, so if its an encounter based system, the Voidborne attack in the Xal’thor fight could just be their format overlayed onto Xal’thor’s side, so the enemy team gets more attacks during the 30 seconds on top of Xal’thor, and the player has to prioritize them. For the pillars thing, have the odds of the attack landing be 1/8, then increase with every further iteration, and for Nyxoria, replace the Faceless One spawns with random 5 damage ticks in the interval.

i can only have one monster attacking at once, sorry

Ok, so add the base damage of the lower monster types to the boss attack during those phases.
