Ideas for my waiting room

In my opinion you should make a separate room for updates and instead just put a teleporter there that teleports you to the update room.

When updates are inside the main lobby it just feels very cluttered.

Ideas:

  • Put the game title in a large display font!
what the truck is a display font

Display fonts are fonts used for large text, headings/titles, and more important information. They typically have more interesting features than paragraph fonts, which are mostly straightforward and primarily divided into two categories: serif and sans serif. [1] Some display font examples (in GKC) are Staatliches, Rye, and Bangers.

  • Vary your fonts! You seem to be using the default font, Rubik, which is an absolute eyesore imo. [2] Also vary font sizes and colours. Quick tip: Put a thin outline around text of the same colour to make it bolded!
  • More props! More decoration! More STUFF!!!
  • Add tips for players to read before playing!
  • Something interactive!
  • Creator’s notes!
FOR THE BAKED CREATURE'S EYES ONLY!!!!!1!!!!11

@bakedpotato RAHHH SORRY FOR PING. I played Crystalline Cove, do you want some feedback for it? (I understand that it’s unfinished!)

Okay prepare yourself… I give very in-depth criticisms lol
What I Loved:

  • The tips that pop up now and then are super fun, and actually useful!
  • The tinted crystals and prop art are very well-made
  • The RNG is very impressive (and tbh it’s also a lot of work)
  • The shop stands look epic
  • Bugs were clearly tested and patched
  • Upgrades give players a goal to work towards
  • You actually made a lobby (this is a very rare sighting in Gimkit maps)

What Can Improve

  • There’s a bug in the lobby where you can get softlocked by jumping to the far left and next to the crystal [3]
  • Honestly, I know one of the tips addresses this, but the pickaxe is a bit useless. Unless you make players actually mine the crystals, don’t use them.
  • I get that it’s unfinished but there are some areas you can see that you shouldn’t be able to (you can see the side quest market stand floating in the sky, and you can look at the inside of the cave just by walking past the cave entrance). Remember that players have a gadget, so they can look around freely with their mouse. Just use camera views to limit their vision.
  • The unfinished sign to the right of the cave entrance
  • There are a lot of invisible barriers, which is fine, but it’s better to be honest to your players about where they can and can’t go. Maybe put a prop that “blocks the way” so it’s clear that they can’t go to certain places
  • There are a ton of crystals in the background of the cave that look like they can be mined, but can’t
  • Once I bought the luck potion (the one for $30), the crystals stopped spawning
  • Make it more interesting in general! Widen the map, add secrets. I suggest an area at the end of the bridge with NPCs that just have dialogue (or maybe even quests :eyes:…)
  • The sparkly text on the crystals is completely white. Try changing their opacity (alpha) and sizes to make them less opaque and bright.

That’s all I’ve got :D I gotta go to period 6

  1. There’s also slab serif, blackletter, script, monospace, and nonlatin fonts but that’s a story for another day ↩︎

  2. and gives me flashbacks of Google docs homework even though it’s the weekend :sob: ↩︎

  3. doesn’t really matter since you can just start the game anyway, but still ↩︎
