Instead of relays to repeaters, use two triggers wired to each other with a delay on each, goes down to 0.01 secs before triggering
And only one trigger can be activated
and only one can send a signal
Just saying, this can even more easily achieved. Just have a zone in front of the barrier that when the player enters that zone it deactivates the barrier. No lifecycle, counter, repeater or relay required.
