How to make good thumbnails for publishing

I have published a few games, but my thumbnails just aren’t satisfactory. Does anyone have any helpful tips or tricks to making awesome thumbnails? I don’t really want to download software (like FireAlpaca), but online sites or others would work fine!

Kleki is a good paint tool that is easy to use.
