Hello, Everyone, about a week ago I found this cool video by RandomGames on youtube. Through the inspect tool you can remodel your gim’s skin. I’m making this guide A because I haven’t met a single person who knows how to do this, and B the YouTube video can be confusing. So with that introduction, here’s how to do it.
(Important note: this may not work on school Chromebooks, because some monitoring extensions installed by schools or parents block the inspect feature)
Step 1: Open any 2-d game mode (ex: Don’t Look Down or Capture the Flag), and open the inspect through either right clicking and going to inspect, or on chrome Ctrl+Shift+I. If this doesn’t work try right clicking, and if your pop-up doesn’t look like this ,
and has the bottom two grayed out it is impossible to do this, if you can click inspect and get ready for step 2…
Step 2: Go to the Source section of the inspect and create a new folder. (You can also wait till step 3, and the inspect will give a prompt to create the folder) (When repeating this you can skip this step)
Step 3: Go to the network tab of the inspect tool. Right now the screen should look like this:
Now, Select the gim you want to edit: in this case i’m going to edit the Shade Born Gim, click the gim, but don’t click Select just yet. You should see some movement to the right. Scroll up and down until you find the name of the gim with a blob below it. In most cases the gim’s name is the same as the locker. In this case the Shade Born is called Wraith. Select the gim, make sure it’s not the blob. It should look something like this.
Step 4: Right click the name, not the picture, if you see a long list of buttons you’ve done it right. Select Override Content (Not Header), and move on to step 5…
Step 5: You should automatically go to the folder you created. If not a notification should pull up in the top prompting you to make a folder. You should look like this…
Step 6: Now you can do one of two things here there’s the easy way, going into files: go from the folder you created and opening till you reach the folder labeled spine, and using the built in editor, which you can use to color on. Ut is limited, but easier than the other way. After editing everything scroll down to step 7.
Way 1
after that click save, and go to step 7.
Way 2: Okay, so you want to import images, have better editors and more versatility. Here’s what you’ll want to do. Screenshot the image, making sure to get the image exactly the same width and length, it’s okay if you mess up, it’s just going to make everything harder at the end. import the image to any editor you want. I would recommend putting two of the screenshots in the same place to help in the future. For this example I used Scratch’s editor… add whatever you want. After creating the gim, you’ll probably want to use a website like Remove.bg to get rid of the background. *Important, make the area between the feet and edge of the screenshots longer than you think as you can always make it smaller. Now, go into Files and go into your Override folder, and put the image you want to replace. Go into the, name and copy it. Right now it should look like this…
Once copied change the name to anything besides what it already is. Next go into the image you want to use to override, and paste the name from the old one.
Once done you’re ready for step 7
STEP 7: Go to any 2-d kit and Start, as soon as you see the, “Loading you in… (this may take a while)” screen open inspect, this WILL NOT WORK if you don’t open inspect before the game starts. and now you can see whether you’ve done it right. Once you see your custom Gim you can shut the inspect tool. Congratulations on making your custom Gim.
But it probably wasn’t that easy
Appearance problems
*Everything is off center.
Here’s what to do,go into the original character layout and click the rescale button.
Now compare them to your current skin. Try to get the same width and same length.
*There are white blobs
Use a site like Remove.bg to take out the background
The Gim won't show up
*Name
Make sure the new skin has the same name as the orginal. Most names end with -v2.31
*Timing
You have to pretty fast opening inspect before the game starts. As soon as the tab stops being an about:blank and goes to the purple screen open inspect
As a thanks for reading all of this I have a gift, I’ll also tell you how to make custom trails.
Step 1-5, are the same as whith Gims, except substituting a gim for a trail. The folder has a different name labeled trails, so when putting in new images do relatively the same thing as with skins, except with the picture I have only discovered the ability to put in one image. So currently I am unable to have different images pop up while running. Do step 6-7 and you’re done. In summary for the exact same thing you’d do with a skin except for putting it in the trail folder, and only having one image in the middle.
Thanks for reading my guide, I hope it helps. I give MOST CREDIT to RandomGames for figuring this out.
