How can i detect if the player is holding a gadget?

I’m making a game and would like to know how a sentry can appear to notice you are holding something

What? Like make the sentry appear when the player pulls out their gadget? Or, make the sentry appear when the player obtains the gadget?

Well, what you could do is have an Item Granter

Then wire the Item Granter to the Sentry:

Item granted → Activate Sentry

I just want something to happen, like a message from a channel or smth. The sentry doesn’t actually have to do it

Well, you could do this if you want the sentry to attack when gadget is obtained.

Huh?

There’s no way to detect if the player has a certain object in their inventory.

Just use my method and instead wire the Item Granter to a notification, or have it transmit on a channel when granted.

Not possible :sob:

I want to check the thing the player is currently holding

There’s currently no way to have a sentry detect what gadget a player has.

The item could be detected by a different device. I want it to appear as if the sentry is doing it

What do you mean? Im confused.

I will just have a sentry there doing nothing

Uhm..

Same here.

So the sentry does nothing, just the “Device” Correct?

Yes. There will be a separate device that will check the player’s currently held item

I want to know how to do that

I’m 99% sure this isn’t possible.

No, not really.

Right now, Currently, there is no way to track a players item.

I mean, could you use a inventory manager? That’s like the closest possible thing to “Tracking” A players item.

Then I don’t think this is possible, sorry @Boymcboytheboy!

Mark a solution if your done with your question!

Uh, yes there is

Checkers :sparkles:

You could make it so when its time for the sentry to appear you wire up a trigger to a checker; Trigger Triggered → Check

Have the checker check for the specific item and then make it send; Check Passes → Activate Sentry

But yeah there’s no way to check when a player is holding a item at that specific moment

So, basically something like if the sentry is in a room the entrance has a zone/trigger which wires it to a checker. Then use check #1. Then if gadget found, activate sentry.

I guess that’ll be the best i can get :frowning:
