Cloud Variables (NOT SOLVED JUST CLOSED)

Impossible

original post below

I know
I’m gonna get a lot of backlash for this topic
“It’s impossible.”
“You’re wasting your time.”
Well, this is a cool idea, and I want to make a topic on it so…

Now, to make a property a cloud variable, we need to either:

  1. Allow the default value of a property to be edited in-game. (Impossible)
  2. Find something that is a real-world connection from GKC, and can be edited through real-world technology (Unproven)

Real-world technology we can use to alter GKC

A clock

“What do you mean a clock is you silly?”

Not just a clock
The Unix epoch

Believe it or not, the Unix epoch is available in GKC. This can be accomplished through probably one of the least used blocks ever.

The Player ID block

The block in question will always contain a timestamp, that timestamp being the seconds that have elapsed since the Unix epoch.

If you want to know more about the block, please visit this topic.

Since this is the only connection to something we have that isn’t:

  1. Server-based
  2. Volatile

Then it is the only method that we have to acquire a cloud variable.

Now I’m not quite sure how to accomplish this or if it’s even possible  myself. That’s why I’m turning to the community.

Note: Player ID pictures can give away your timezone, so if you’re not comfortable with that information online, do not post any pictures.

I’m in band at the time of posting this, so do not expect an immediate response.

Huh. This is interesting. I don’t think that it would be possible to use the timestamp to have a variable that can be changed by the game. It’s a real world thing, but it can’t really be changed without triggering something at a very specific time. If I’m misunderstanding something, please let me know.

It would be really cool but I think with the limits that Gimkit has, it’s very unlikey that this is possible. There’s almost no editing options in-game, as you said yourself

And the reason that Gimkit has unproven real-world connection is because it most likely doesnt.

It’s ok, at least you tried ig :sob:

Okay, after really thinking about this, even if a cloud variable is a real concept, it is impossible to display.

Wow, this was a flop topic :sob:

edit
Even if we can match a real world variable in GKC with the Unix epoch, it is impossible to display (due to the fact that as I have said myself), we cannot physically edit a property’s default value :frowning:

Why not use a globally scoped property?

Ahh global scoped properties kinda meet the requirement, but what we are trying to replicate is a cloud variable, which means something that can be stored outside of Gimkit, but can be used to alter the map itself.

The only way I could think of doing something like that would be a mod of some kind that saves your timestamp that could read information from the site and upload it to the cloud, but I’m pretty sure that’s not something we’re aloud to discuss on here.

yeah modding Gimkit is not related to GKC unfortunately, and for this to work, everyone would have to have the same mod installed.

My thought process was that we can use the player ID generated (also the host-ID) to link up to a method of storing server based data, but the problem is that editing a map during game is impossible.
