Hey,
The Help category is typically the most posted-in one, and there are a lot of things that aren’t specified that are helpful to know. So here they are:
- Ping a leader or two if you see an off-topic topic and don’t engage.
- Flag and move on for posts that are off-topic
Off-Topic Posting
Frequently, people mistakenly post things that are considered off-topic here on the forums. Everyone’s done this before, and it’s really only a real issue if it’s repeated. So consider this a friendly reminder and some clarification.
Something that would help out a lot is if you see an off-topic topic, you submit a moderator flag and post once pinging one or maybe two leaders or moderators.
None of them are on all the time, and they can’t see everything that’s going on in the forum at once. So letting them know is the fastest way to get something moderated.
If you’re a regular (tl3), then you can change the topic title and category if needed.
The most important thing is that 1) staff are notified and 2) people don’t respond to and continue posting in the thread.
Also… be nice to people, especially when they have a genuine Gimkit question that they’re just not aware isn’t allowed. Again, getting off topic isn’t really that serious.
The other thing that’s been happening more recently is that when people get off-topic in topics, they get instantly (and kind of harshly) reprimanded by more than a neccessary amount of users.
This gets repeated a lot, but it’s worth saying again: flag and move on. Don’t respond. Things just escalate from there.
If you see someone repeatedly getting off topic, then yeah, it’s okay to kindly let them know alongside actually contributing to the thread.
Here’s a fairly comprehensive but concise summary of this section:
Being off-topic on occasion isn’t a big deal, but it can sometimes escalate or create inflammatory scenarios in discussions. If you see something off-topic, don’t respond, flag and move on. If you’re unsure what constitutes as off-topic, here’s a quick summary:
- Sharing or asking for codes.
- Commenting on something in a user’s bio or from another forum, or real life.
- Talking about the Gimkit platform in general, not Gimkit Creative specifically.
- Something unrelated to the topic.
If you’re unsure whether or not something is off-topic, you can always send a message to @moderators.
- You can use AI in post #1 to describe your issue or idea
- If AI is used in the thread, it should be credited
- Respect OP’s wishes regarding AI
Generative AI
If you’re making a Help topic, then it’s okay to use AI to describe your problem. That benefits everyone. However, if you use AI to answer someone’s question and don’t disclose it, that becomes a problem. Why? Because it’s deceitful- your profile information is attached to the post making it seem like something you came up with.
Usually as long as you say you’re using AI, it’s okay, but if the original poster doesn’t want an AI-generated answer, then that’s their choice and should be respected. They might not want to mark a solution on an AI answer.
If someone asks you if you used AI, be honest. However it’s also not a huge deal and if you see someone else using it, don’t be a jerk.
AI is still changing a lot, so this guideline (which also is present in the complete rules topic) might evolve as well.
Thanks for reading.
