THE WITHERING ISLES🌿- Ideas Request

The Request: So, I’ve been brainstorming for a new game to create, since I don’t currently have any, and I came up with an island that withers concept. And you have to escape the island before the “C0rruption Index” (A meter that increments by one every six seconds) reaches 100% in value.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

The Withering Isles is a unique single and multiplayer game in which you and your team are trapped in an Ontological or “Bootstrap” Paradox created by The Architect. Scavenge the remains of the Alphastar, fight off sentries, and outrun a 100% infection rate.


:shield: CLASSES: THE SURVIVORS

  • [ MEDIC ] — Utility / Support
    • Ability - [Heal]: Deploys one med pack for every player, triggerable two minutes.
    • Description: “I’ll give you five more minutes… use them wisely.” :hourglass_not_done:
  • [ SOLDIER ] — Tank / Heavy
    • Ability - [Rogue]: Gives a ten second speed and damage boost by 25% each.
    • Description: “Nothing gets through me. Not even the vines.” :chains:
  • [ SENTINELL ] — DPS / Offensive
    • Ability: IDK
    • Description: IDK
  • [ DEFENDER ] — Scavenger / Stealth
    • Ability: IDK
    • Description: “IDK

Once the objective is complete, the Architect will trigger a total timeline collapse. You have 60 seconds to reach the extraction rift.


Request - Pt. 2: So, unless you have ideas, I’ve got the gist of the concept, but what I’d really like help with, is the design. I’m not sure how exactly to build around this game, and as you can see, Classes 3 and 4 are blank, because I don’t know what to do for them either.

I came here because I’ve been stuck for a couple of days on this, and y’all usually have answers, so really anything will be greatly appreciated. I sort of just want to get something on the table at this point. So I’ll really take a lot of ideas into consideration, and anything put down you will be credited for, unless you don’t want to be for some reason.

I read the thing, and you seem to have a base on what you want to achieve, but what exactly is the help you need here?

I meant…what you saw is all mechanics. But I don’t know what the players are trying to go through…I don’t just want this to be like a plain old one way out remake.

Yes, exactly. I’ve no idea what I want this island to look like…

How about something either dystopian or something like darker colors – snowy grass and dungeon stuff…

Ability ideas:

Thrift - Aquire a basic item (like a heal or shield) in time of need (ex. very low health)

Smokescreen - Become undetectable by surrounding enemies for like 5 seconds or so

(These are following the scavenger aspect more than the stealthy one)

Daily reminder that tinting alien plants is very helpful-- they can become grass, moss, sewage spills, carpeting, instrument strings, etc

For island design, the title makes me think of an overgrown apocalyptic city. A once sophisticated, technological society reduced to mere rubble and scraps under the force of mother nature.

you should do different biomes on the island like instead of just one island with one look to it you should make it have different level/areas.

Example: Beach, forest, ruins, desert.

I had a feeling…just had a feeling…Those are awesome! Absolutely using them, thanks! Won’t mark this as a solution yet, because of others possibly having ideas as well.

Oh, I missed this…I was considering that, sort of creating like snowy grass-like floating islands- I didn’t think it’d work, I’ll try it though.

It has a darker contrast, which makes it look corrupted (snowy grass vs. grass)

Yeah…I see exactly what you mean…I tried Korms idea of detailing the snowy biome…


Not too shabby, but at the same time, you’re right, variety can be used. I think I’ll use the grass biome as a part of the islands that aren’t withered.
