Humanity is growing. We’ve harnessed all the energy on the earth, on the sun, and even through the entire Milky Way. We’ve climbed our way to the top of the Kardashev scale (It’s a scale that measures how advanced a civilization is, we’re currently at 0.75 on it, go look it up for more info) but there’s one final tier to reach.
Tier Omega.
The control of our entire universe’s, or heck, multiple universe’s energy. But something stands in the way. It’s so ridiculously powerful that no (living) human can imagine it.
And it’s nothing. Just nothing.
Our universe, while vast and ever expanding, has a lot of empty space in it. No gases, galaxies or anything else. Over 20% of our universe is nothing. And the weird thing is, it pulls more nothingness to it, like a magnet. Some stars (called gravastars) are made of nothing, with an unbreakable cosmic shell surrounding them.

While taking measurements of the universe one day to map out spaceship routes, you notice something odd. The large nothing blob is developing an unbreakable shell and it’s growing. It has begun to turn everything to nothing, and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. The universe as we know it is dying, and you need to evacuate to the nearest dimension for any hope of survival. But as far as humanity has come, dimensional travel is extremely unstable and many reality bending glitches happen along the way. But you decide to take a chance to save your life and others too, and open up a portal.

Info: A rare sentient specimen from Mercury, he grew tired of the nomadic lifestyle of his species, so when the Gimulus spaceship arrived, he happily accepted an offer from the captain to j0in the crew to help discipline some of the rowdier members, as well as watch for traitors.
For ideas for the gas planets, you could maybe have an orbital station used to extract rare resources from the gas, similar to Cloud City from Star Wars.
Did you intentionally reference Karl Marx? Also, include an asteroid belt that attacks the ship.
I have an idea true the are made out of gases but something fun will be making clouds as platforms and in order to get to the you need a jetpack and there will be fuel refill stations to refill you jetpack
