Question: channels or wires

Why does everyone use wires if using channels saves memory?

I use wires because too many channels becomes unorganized. I also am never making maps that actually use every single percentage point of memory

Wires are just easy to see. You can tell what triggers what rather than going into the device and trying to figure out what activates what.

I prefer channels, and always bug my friends about it, but if I were doing something that requires a lot of channels (such as a sentry changing between 5 positions after a 5 second cooldown: think SCP-173), I would use wires since my brain would get fried. Even though it does use lots of memory, I like to think of wires as a last resort.

Channels are better because they cost no memory, are speedy to name and keep track of because they’re just a list, and don’t block your view of the map. Pretty much every advanced map uses channels. In fact, even the Gimkit Documentation admits they’re usually better.

Use wires if it’s a small simple mechanism like a height tracker because then it serves as a good visual aid of how it works.

i use both (btw is this considered off-topic?)

Just a bit, it would be nice if you added a description of why it’s helpful to use both since the user is asking about their uses.

i use both because whenever im asking for help most people say use channels and it costs no memory, on the other hand i use wires to figure out how to activate certain devices or props and its easier to use

Using wires is more helpful from a visual perspective, but using channels saves memory. I personally prefer wires, although it can get cluttered if there are too many of them. Hope this helps!

So we don’t go off topic my quick answer is

Channels

so many more possibilities with channels unlike wires

I mean, this shouldn’t necessarily be a question to ask on Forums, just use them wisely depends on your conditions when building, I personally use them both.

Well also I say depending on the person you are asking, they will tell you what they use because they might be different if you think one or so is easy or more complicating or less memory but you know :person_shrugging:

Even though I use wires for easier reference, I’d agree that channels are better.
Channels cost no lag in your game, nor add extra memory to your map, so therefore, I’d say channels are better.

this reminds me of the repeaters vs trigger loop topic
:P
I mostly use wires cuz visuals cuz I’m not one to remember all the channels I make (because I shorten them from “reset counter one” to “rc1” due to that I get confused sometimes and forget what they go to) I mean hey if everyone’s sharing their opinions on wires and channels peacefully I’m all for it both have their own little perks :3

I use channels just because

I still use wires but for the specific stuff I use channels
