Hey Hey Hey! Ya’ll!
This is my first post for the Gimkit Forum, so really excited for that!
I need some help with my creative map, specifically with Lore and a few mechanics. All the details are down below.
What I already have
The player wakes up on an island and does not remember where they are or how they got there (the player is meant to be a person who was brought into the gimkitiverse)
The player has to progress through several islands, each one based on a 2D mode (fistopia, One Way Out, etc…)
Each island has different mechanics that are used (Fishing in the fishtopia-themed map, for example) to progress to the next island.
Every amount of islands (in a transition zone) there is a marketplace where the player finds most of the lore by talking with market vendors/NPCs (Each of the game modes used to be different “universes” that were brought together via a machine known as “the collider”, which caused these islands to be formed.
At the last island (themed after Apocalypse) the player will take on hordes of the zombies we see in Apocalypse, the player will then take on the final boss which opens a portal to a peaceful island, where the player decides to live as a farmer to the end of their days.
What I DON’T Have
Who created the collider? How did the islands come together after the collider exploded? I would like to have lore questions like this answered. ALSO
If anyone has any good lore/mechanic ideas (ideas for puzzles to proceed to the next island, what is offered at the vendors in the marketplace, etc…) I will not hesitate to not only put you in the credits but ALSO you can become characters in the game if you so desire (just let me know after your posts) and I can add you as an NPC if you wat, make sure you tell me what kind of Gim you want your NPC to be!
Sincerely
-Hermes. Greek god of thieves, travelers, shepherds, the internet…(I know this is painfully obvious but this has happened on other social media sites, so I am partially obligated to say so but I am not THE Hermes, that’s just my internet pen name lol).
EDITS
Spawn island formed (nothing much, just a bland island in the corner with some opening text.
The first island is in the works: Catch of The Day. Themed on the Fishtopia game mode. The player will have to fish, sell the fish, and use the money to pay the gatekeeper, bringing them into the first marketplace area…wait…who is this?
Welcome to the forums, @Hermes! Honestly, what you have already is excellent already. How about the collider was created by Josh, the creator of Gimkit. And maybe the islands came together because Josh wanted them to tell a story… I don’t know.
The collider could be a machine that went wrong after a scientist tried to make a portal to the multiverse. You could hide the professor’s house somewhere on one of the islands, and have notes detailing what went wrong. Maybe there is an NPC somewhere who describes a hidden boss that you have to defeat?
I have a good idea for the lore itself, after some more time fleshing everything out, I’m sure it will be fine. What I’m more focused on is mechanics, I know how to make simple marketplaces and puzzles in GKC. But I would like some ideas for the puzzles based on game modes like Farmchain or Blastball, island names would be good too (Some catchy names with alliteration). Thanks for your help! I can use this.
Hey, no worries. I need all the help I can get, and even little things will help me flesh everything out. I’ll be taking notes and anyone and everyone’s help is appreciated.
No code sharing, it’s like the #1 rule new users break.
One of the NPCs is an alien.
The alien tells you insider info, you can find and pay him AC’s (Alien Coins) to get information. It could be hints for later puzzles, a upgraded gadget, etc.
Thanks for the help @Slim. Just a quick question (and this isn’t me being offensive or defensive in any sort of way). What is code sharing? And were you letting me know bc I already did do code sharing or just as a simple FYI? I just want to know so I don’t break any of the Terms of Service.
Code sharing is when you post the code for a Gimkit game. I believe Slim was just saying this as a way of cautioning you against it- I think you’re fine
