Both the first and second parts are amazing. The level of detail you provided is amazing and the amount of work you must have done for all these small aspects is impressive. Amazing.
Thanks! I was sort of struggling on what to name the guide, or what label it fell into, so I eventually settled on the broad term “Mapmaking” because it just… talks about all the aspects of making a map, sort of.
I ain’t reading allat
Idk why I haven’t seen this guide! It’s great!
It took a while to update and while that was happening no one really posted, I think.
coughs
ShadowDragon44 thank you for the fortieth like lol.
Do you guys think I should do a difficulty poll? Because I was thinking of just saying
[
Compendium ] Mapmaking & Creative Game Design (
Concept)
Or something. Really anything that isn’t too cluttering, gets the point across, and still looks nice.
yes but looks like you updated it a lot! 0.0
Huh, I figured it was more of a minor, you know, fix- few grammar mistakes fixed, some formatting… lol yeah I spent a lot of time on it, but it seems to have paid off so I’m grateful for that. I think it’s the longest guide on the forum on technicality.
Okay, I might do one. The thing is it doesn’t really go over anything super specific like a mechanic. It’s just a bunch of concepts, which I think are pretty easy to grasp but a lot harder to employ if that makes any sense.
Hm, does “Introduction” convey the difficulty enough? I think it does. Here’s a more advanced difficulty poll, I guess.
- Introduction
- Overview
- Concept
- Ideas
Anyways, please only vote if you’ve read most of the updated guide.
Uh turtle two things…
Is this the order you recommend MAKING the game in?
Because personally I believe
- Design ~ Design comes first because most core game mechanics interact with designs.
- Game Mechanics
- User Interface
Second thing…
If you are going to add images you could add this as an example to flowchart. I saw it was a wiki and wasn’t sure if it was for community involvement for infinite editing time :>
Yeah so uh..
Embarrasing mistake time.
I forgot to put them in order after the mechanics section, sorry.
If you’re willing, you can move the table of contents and the guide itself around.
As for the images, that’s an awesome example- but if you could hold off until all the images are put in, that’d be great, so it doesn’t look weird.
yes
probably quote pings dont work either
I don’t think anything does…
I only saw Turtle’s reply cause I was browsing forums.
Not form me
I didn’t see this until just now because I wasn’t notified.
Anyways, do you want to rearrange the guide or should I? I originally had Design Systems as something extra, but I realize that since the guide is presented in order, it should be in the early planning stage as a sort of choice.
I rearranged the TOC and the stuff in the guide (it wasn’t that hard all I did was flip UI and Structure) and then I figured when you actually put in the second part you could rearrange that.
Okay. The second part was made a wiki btw so you can if you want, but no worries.
I wasn’t even notified of your edit lol so I had no idea
Second part.
(the second part was where most of the work was done just because there was so much to do and format)
An ultimatum, I see how it is lol.
Thanks for your help! I’ll work on it.
I have to get going but if it nothing has changed by Monday I will :D
Cya next week!
I know that currently introduction has the maximum votes, but considered the length and detail, “Introduction” seems too small. I think either ideas or concept would work best since so much has been suggested and different game designing concepts are introduced such as the iteration and gameplay looks.
Huh, yeah. Oh and are we all good with it being a tug? I think it’s the most expansive and detailed game design guide.
But ideas feels a little weird, doesn’t fit in the title.
Lol yeah I guess you’re right, that works.
Then put concepts ;-; tug sounds good
