Level Design Tips guide

Hi! I’m planning on making a level Design Tips guide for GKC platforming, but to do this I want people to give me tips to add, that way I’m not just going in blind.

  • DON’T BE REPETITIVE. Placing the same obstacle (a single block platform, for instance) over and over again makes it less enjoyable.
  • ADD DECORATION. Decorating makes the atmosphere of the game feel more immersive, and can make players want to play more. Less decoration also gets less players as it makes your game look low-effort.

I’ll edit this post with more later

  • Uh, maybe include that (if a platformer) a level should have a variety of jumps and obstacles that are challenging and:

like maybe have a level where platforms disappear or another where you speed is changed.

  • And when creating the level in whatever, make sure it isn’t cheesable…I guess
  • Make each level fully built and decorated (like coderdash said) and levels can be built around a certain theme and can give off a certain vibe if decorated well.

I’ll see what more I can say later.

Don’t Be Repetitive

The number one mistake people make is being repetitive. People just spam the same jump going in the same direction. It gets so boring overtime.

Special Jumps

Sometimes, people just spam really easy jumps over and over. Follow @VoidFluffy’s catalog jumping guide to get some if you can’t find them.

Decor

Sometimes, people just can’t do anything with props and barriers.
If you look at ssj, yoyo and stache [jinx] made the background custom and it turned out really well.

I made a custom background in my top-down, but I think it turned out well.
