You can be/catch someone trying to steal historical artifacts from the museum and be the keeper.
There can also be some lore in the ancient statues

Maybe you could have it “Night at the Museum” style where some of the statues are sentries and you have to make it to a certain place that has a really cool artifact. (and then make it back through the museum or run away in your van and try not to get hit by the police sentries)

OK that game sounds so fun:)
I will help with some lore and characters:)

LORE IDEAS:

  • So there’s an ancient statue of Egypt and if you trigger or pull a lever, it leads to a tomb escape but you can get a key at the end.
  • That key unlocks a secret room, and you find some information about the museum.
  • SECRET ROOM LORE GOOD: The museum has a vault that contains 1 million dollars $_$ and you have to solve a puzzle to get that million dollars:)
  • SECRET ROOM LORE CREEPY: There were a lot of “sightings” in the museum, and gims disappearing. It’s either a kidnapping, or SOMETHING ELSE.
  • SECRET ROOM LORE BAD: A lot of people actually attempted to steal precious artefacts and got away with it, and they still haven’t found them. So the museum replaced them with FAKES!

The other museum guard:
Gim: A gim that looks very cool to you
Background: A museum guard that has been here for many years and knows TONS of lore, helps you a lot and is very smart
NPC or Sentry: Sentry on your side and fights enemies
gadget: Slingshot

The enemy:
GIM (not sure)
Background: A super smart thief that leaves the scene with no trails, loves artefacts
NPC

UNKNOWN?:
Shadeborne
Just a mysterious gim that keeps appearing, not sure if real or ghost
NPC that flickers here and there

Museum Shop guy:
Riff (because why not)
Sells museum stuff, super $tupid (sorry), but very generous and gives you stuff that you need to solve clues
