How does memory work? It says something costs +8 memory but when I add it it does not change.
Every one percent of memory is equal to 1000 memory , so in you case the increase is to small to be notable for the memory bar to change but if you were to add like 125 of the 8 memory things then it would be notable enough ,so the bars number is increased .
