Marking youself as a solution is allowed when:
a. nobody else has solved the problem
b. your solution is actually a solution and not off-topic

Since no one else technically solved the problem. And while the solution that was marked isn’t actually a solution really, it’s not at all off topic. But hey, you make a valid point.

And I don’t think it matters that much. It’s just one solution

We both said the same thing, therefore he shouldn’t mark himself a solution.

I mean, you literally said how you guys said the same thing. If it’s not that obvious who solved it, then the solution isn’t that clear cut and obvious as well. (Plus, it’s just one solution)
