MAIN IDEA
This is the main idea of the game.
A few Kits (Years) ago, there was an expl0sion. The main laboratory for experimenting was expl0ded and all scientists and evidence of work was lost. Some kits later, ancient gimlien writing was found on some rocks. You are part of a team to uncover this.
STORY - Chapter 1
You must travel and bring back a fossil that depicts the gimlien history.

Just like something with a fossil and a standard gim on the fossil. Add some archaeology tools on the side and a shadow of a gim on the fossil.
The expl0sion could have been caused by experiments with Chemical X, which created the Apocalypse game mode monsters. Now you are traveling back to examine the writing to find a clue to a weakness to prevent the monsters from continuing to attack gims.
You could also expand on the research occuring at the lab before the expl0sion, as the lore from the Apocalypse game mode suggests that the evil plants were an intentional creation, so maybe you could build off of that.
And this is a bit of a joke, but you could have a chompz gim be a miniboss roaming the desert in chapter 1, hunting you as you try to get to the abandoned lab.
What if in the lore, one of the scientists survived the expl0sion, and then there’s a twist that the character you play as is that scientist, and your goal is to try and recover the alien knowledge that you previously researched before the expl0sion
