I am making a cave system to house a cult in my team PVP map, and I need help with ideas for a good terrain/prop mixture to pull off a design that isn’t just monotonous walls of Dynamic Stone.
I had platformer game once upon a time… then half of it got deleted by a bug :l
Anyways I had a cave-like system in my game and this is what I made. Use other Dynamic terrains like the Gold and Ruby to spice things up a little bit. Add some hanging vines and make cool geodes with item images and tinted rocks. Caves aren’t really flat either so give it curves. You can add some stalagmites with either ice barriers or concrete barriers. And if you want the cave to be dark, just overlay a tinted black barrier with the Alpha somewhere from 0.30-0.50

ANy further ideas for a top down based terrain for the cave system? I will note that the area outside the caves is snowy, in case that influences design ideas at all.

Sorry, I had meant that the outside terrain was snowy grass, so it clashed with the floor of the cave. Sorry for not being clearer.

Thank you, this looks incredible so far! I might have to reformat the trail to the cave as if I used this currently it would be upside down, but this looks like a really good fit. Here, i will include some screenshots of the map so you know what is already in place and can format accordingly:
So basically I would just make the trail in the second and third images go up a bit into a teleporter, and then you have unlimited space for cave interior, because I can just toss it in a corner somewhere for the teleporter to send the player to. The first image is meant to be an alternate entrance to the caves, where you enter through a trapdoor in the floor of the cult tent.

Points of Interest:
- A black tinted barrier with an Alpha ranging from 0.20-0.50 above the terrain and props from shading
- You want your borders to make a perfect box so a camera view is easier to use
- Walking on the walls… is a problem which is why I put invisible barriers to limit player movement, it kinda gives the cave a platformer vibe, even though its in top-down. (Highlighted in red
)
- You can save terrain by having holes in your cave walls! Plus it gives a cool effect
- Something I forgot to do is a yellow-orange glow around the lanterns, you should definitely try to do that
- OOH another thing I forgot to do was add some stalagmites with either ice barriers or concrete barriers.
This could potentially be an entrance to the base dun-dun-daa

This is incredible! I legitimately thought I was looking at a platformer before I read the text, awesome job, my only concern is the player might not see all the detail, because while I can restrain the player vision with camera view, I don’t think I can expand the base view, or at least if it’s possible, I don’t know how. But otherwise the props and terrain look great! The silver/diamond texturing in contrast with the stone like that looks good, and I will probably add some random rubies at the upper and lower edges just for some contrast. Would it be possible for you to design a small room with a podium for a sacrifice with a similar design to this room? I want somewhere special to put the cult leader, as each team has its own Sentry Leader that the other team must eliminate to win.

Well terrain is going to be similar to what you already have, though maybe some dark scraps or dark stone bricks mixed in as the cult uses this room REALLY frequently, as the lore is the sacrifices at this altar channeled through the cult leader’s power allows his cultists to be revived. Also maybe add some blue banners since the cult is supposed to be blue team, the king red team.
