Dialogue Progression! (Difficulty: 2.1/10) [🟩]

Have you ever wanted your character/sentry to say more than one thing. That is the exact point of Dialogue Progression!

Materials
  • Minimum of 3 triggers
  • Something to trigger the interaction
  • Dialogue/Popup Devices

Steps

Step 1
  1. Put down 2 triggers and set them both to be active on game start.

Step 2
  1. Put down X triggers where X is the amount of additional dialogue you want to add and set all of them to NOT be active on game start.

Step 3
  1. Put down X + 1 dialogue or popup devices and wire every trigger except the first one to the corresponding dialogue/popup.

Step 4
  1. Put down something to trigger the interaction like a button or character and wire it to the first trigger.

Step 5
  1. Now wire every popup or dialogue so that whenever the popup/dialogue is closed it activates the next trigger and deactivates the current trigger. Ignore the last one.

Step 6
  1. Wire the first trigger to trigger every other trigger when itself has been triggered.

Conclusion: That is the simple way to make dialogue progression. It may be tedious if you want more dialogue. Ping me if you need clarification or suggestions. I’ll exit with a poll (or two).

Could someone with out the season ticket use popups instead of diologs
Or use popups with wires of popup closed → open popup

Yes, I believe I mentioned that.

This is for if someone comes back to talk to an npc, the dialogue changes although the dialogue could be chained as well.

couple of things:

  • you can also make this more memory-efficient by using wire repeaters
  • if you’re not using unclosable popups (you can configure that in the settings of a popup), then you don’t need the triggers
  • for an unclosable popup with multiple call-to-actions, you need multiple triggers/wire repeaters

You can’t deactivate/activate wire repeaters

Can you explain what you’re trying to say?

You can also chain the dialogue if you want and it would still work.

  1. unfortunately, you can’t
  2. blame my 8 am brain because i just remembered that for ctas (call-to-actions), you still need a trigger or wire repeater to close it
  3. yeah that works
